Creating a Culture: Fort Collins’ Chris Webb on “The Buy In” (Video)

As we heard from Carmel Swim Club’s Chris Plumb, creating a team is about creating a culture. Chris Webb of Fort Collins Area Swim Team (FAST), the team that got 2nd at Jr’s on the Women’s side (to Carmel) by a mere 12 points, had a similar philosophy. Webb explained that one method FAST used was group goal setting, laying out a plan of attack at the beginning of the season AS A TEAM so that everyone played a part and everyone was invested.

Once the goals were set, Webb went onto say at throughout the season, you keep kids invested by explaining and reminding what it means to be a team. The chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, so it’s important to keep everyone involved at all levels. Even if you’re not a Jr national level swimmer, you can still give a Jr national level effort every day in practice, which in turn could push another swimmer who is going to Jr nationals to mirror that effort, and in turn everyone benefits.
