Colin Geer Posts 1:59.52 200 Fly On Night 3 Of Columbus Sectionals

Highlighting night 3 in Columbus was Colin Geer who swam to a 1:59.52 in the 200 butterfly. Geer won the event by almost two seconds as Mason Edmund swam to a 2:01.42.

Geer holds a lifetime best of a 1:58.59 that he swam for 15th at US Summer Nationals last month. Prior to US Summer Nationals, Geer had not broken the 2:00 mark but his swim tonight marks the 3rd time he has done so this summer.

Fellow Michigan teammate Jack Wilkening swam to a win in the 100 backstroke, touching in a 54.33. Wilkening won the 50 backstroke last night and added another win to his tally here. His lifetime best is a 53.37 from May 2024 and he swam a 53.87 at US Summer Nationals to finish 6th.

The men’s 400 freestyle came down to the wire and was a tight race. Alex Axon earned the win touching in a 3:58.18 just ahead of Ohio State teammate Mason Edmund who touched in a 3:58.23. Ryan Healy (3:58.26) and Isaac Fleig (3:58.50) were also within a second of Axon.

Blazing Baracudas’ Jude Banks earned the win in the 100 breast, touching in a 1:02.22. That was just off his lifetime best of a 1:01.98 that he swam in June. He entered this summer with a lifetime best 1:04.54. Also earning a win tonight was William Fentress who touched in a 24.30 in the 50 butterfly.

Highlighting the girls side of the night was Rachel Bockrath who swam to a 1:02.19 in the 100 backstroke to win by almost a second. Bockrath won the 200 free last night as well. The swim marked a personal best as her previous best was a 1:03.29 that she swam just last month. She entered the season with a personal best 1:04.08.

Joleigh Crye earned a win in the 100 breaststroke touching in a 1:10.37. Crye’s best time is a 1:08.68 that she swam at this meet a year ago. She did not swim the event at US Summer Nationals as she only swam the 50 breast where she was 11th. Finishing behind Crye was 17 year old Quinn Schureck who touched in a 1:10.80. Schureck, a Kentucky commit, dropped from her lifetime best of a 1:11.29. 24 year old Hannah Bach was 3rd in a 1:10.81 and currently works for Ohio State Athletics as the program coordinator of NextGen.

16 year old Emily Wolf swam to a 2:14.00 in the 200 fly, about a second off her lifetime best 2:12.97.  Lara Phipps earned a win in the 50 fly touching in a 27.03.

Winning the 400 free was Lainey Mullins who touched in a 4:16.57, about three seconds off her lifetime best. Mullins competes collegiately for Notre Dame. Finishing behind Mullins was Elizabeth Eichbrecht who touched in a 4:17.40. Eichbrecht won the 800 free on night 1.
