Colgate Women, Holy Cross Men Earn Wins In Patriot League Matchup

HAMILTON – Colgate Swim & Dive earned 45 podium finishes, including 18 first-place tallies, in hard-fought dual action against Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. 

The Raiders were powered by a dominant women’s performance, as Colgate captured the women’s team title 172.5–127.5, while the men’s squads traded event wins throughout the afternoon despite falling in a tightly-contested battle 170-129.

Women’s Highlights

Colgate’s women opened the meet in strong fashion, winning the 200 Medley Relay behind Allie PhillipsRegan HauAudrey Collins, and Elizabeth Rainey with a time of 1:47.01. That momentum carried throughout the day as the Raiders posted wins in 11 women’s events.

Collins, Phillips, Katie Miller, and MG King each won multiple events on the day. Paige Fisher also nabbed a gold, as did the two relay squads in the stellar performance. 

Miller led the distance group with victories in both the 1000 Free (10:39.58) and 500 Free (5:09.46), while MG King claimed first-place finishes in the 200 Free (1:53.66) and 200 Back (2:04.94).

Phillips delivered one of the most complete performances of the meet, winning the 100 Back (57.77) and 200 IM (2:10.62), while adding a second-place finish in the 50 Free. Collins also made a major impact with wins in the 100 Breast (1:05.04) and 100 Fly (56.63), along with a runner-up finish in the 100 Free.


The women capped the meet by winning the 400 Free Relay, as Rainey, King, Heather O’Day, and Fisher touched first in 3:35.54.


Men’s Highlights

The men’s team totaled 19 podium finishes including seven first-place tallies. David BrophyNick Pompo, and Jack Schurtz-Ford each won two events, while Michael Granin also captured gold on the men’s side. 


Brophy paced the Raiders with wins in the 200 Free (1:42.73) and 500 Free (4:42.55). Schurtz-Ford swept the backstroke events, taking first in both the 100 Back (52.30) and 200 Back (1:55.21).

Granin added a victory in the 100 Free (47.02), while first-year diver Nick Pompo continued his strong season with wins on both boards, capturing the 3-meter dive (291.90) and 1-meter dive (278.93).

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Devin Brindle and sophomore Brenna Short both won two events, but the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Colgate 172.5-127.5 at the Lineberry Natatorium. The Crusaders fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 6-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Brindle won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.67) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.44), in addition to coming in second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.94).
• Short claimed first place in both the one-meter (253.65) and three-meter (264.30) diving.
• Freshman Riley Van Schaften added a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.52).
• Sophomore Ellie Reinhart recorded two second-place finishes, in the 100-yard backstroke (59.43) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.53).
• Other Crusaders to finish in second place included sophomore Nora Herbstzuber (200-yard individual medley / 2:14.49), senior Ainsley Nalen (500-yard freestyle / 5:22.46) and junior Megan Nelson (200-yard butterfly / 2:12.51).

• Holy Cross will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 24, when it plays host to Sacred Heart in its Senior Day meet at 1 p.m.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior Zach Bubonovich won three events, to lead the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team to a 170-129 victory over Colgate at the Lineberry Natatorium. Crusaders improve to 3-2 on the year with the win, while the Raiders fall to 1-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Bubonovich posted first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.07), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.91) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:56.92).
• Senior Jack Greiner won the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.93), and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.70).
• Sophomore Peter Mottolese placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (51.47), while coming in second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.99).
• Freshman Anderson Bishop took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.61), and junior Will Clark placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.97).
• The 200-yard medley relay team of Greiner, Bubonovich, freshman Andrew Villani and Clark also had a first-place finish (1:33.31).

• Holy Cross will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 24, when it plays host to Connecticut College in its Senior Day meet at 1 p.m.
