SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sam Adelson and Nick Pompo swept the diving events, and David Brophy captured two of Colgate’s six victories in a narrow 122-119 victory over Le Moyne on Friday evening. The swimmers competed in Syracuse, while the divers faced off in Hamilton and helped push the Raiders to the win.

COACH KUGELMAN’S COMMENTS

“This group of divers keeps impressing me meet after meet. After being on the road and competing three weekends in a row, having a rest week going into this one made a huge difference. Our men scored significant points that helped secure the team win, and our women were equally impressive. They continue to push each other, improve every week, and it’s showing both in their dives and how they carry themselves on the pool deck. I couldn’t be prouder and can’t wait to see how the rest of the weekend goes!”

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adelson and Pompo swept the diving events with first-place finishes in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter to help seal the victory. Adelson and Pompo took first and second in the 1-Meter, respectively, with scores of 277.13 and 271.50. Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams hosted their first dual meet of the season as they took on Colgate University at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool on Friday evening. Both teams dropped their matchup, with the men’s team falling 119-122 and the women’s team coming short, 80-162.

“On the women’s side, our 400-medley relay was the fastest ever swam in the Ryan Pool by a LMC squad in 35+ years,” said head coach Adam Zaczkowski ’04.

“Our freshmen quartet of Selena SnowShea GillespieSophia Stinnett and Katelin Fawcett really stepped up and performed admirably in their events.”

“Senior Brooke Sommo had a really fast 100 fly and is gaining confidence right before mid-season championships,” added Zaczkowski.

“Junior Madeleine O’Dea was very good in the 100 breast and 200 IM.  Her 100 breast was the fastest in-season swim of her career.”

For the men’s team, the three point meet doesn’t really show how much better we were on the swimming side tonight.

The 400-medley and 400-free relays were both pool records. Lucas Clay won two events and set an individual pool record in the 100 breast.”

“Junior Captain Justin Enser was good in the 50, while Alexander Pilieci was his fastest ever in-season in the 100 fly.”

“The meet came down to lop-sided diving events as we had a board strike during warm-ups and had a diver scratched for medical purposes. Diving was the difference in the meet.”
