The Pac-12 Conference announced today that CALIFORNIA’S Ryan Hoffer was named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week and ARIZONA STATE’S Youssef Selim was voted Pac-12 Men’s Diver of the Week.
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Ryan Hoffer, Fr. California (Scottsdale, Ariz.)
Hoffer helped lead Cal’s undefeated squad (5-0) in a dual-meet win at USC, 168-123, over a three-day span. He started off swimming the anchor leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:26.07) and then placed second in the 400-free relay (2:55.62). The freshman scored maximum points in his two individual races placing first in the 50 free (19.79) and 100 free (44.20). In his first collegiate season, Hoffer ranks fourth in the nation in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free.
Diver of the Week: Youssef Selim, So., Arizona State (Cairo, Egypt)
Selim collects his first Pac-12 Diver of the Week honor after finishing first in both of his events last week. Selim’s two victories in the desert battle helped No. 7 Arizona State defeat intrastate rival No. 18 Arizona, 203.5-94.5. ASU’s men’s team has defeated or tied the Wildcats for the past three seasons after not producing a win over a stint of almost 15 years prior. The sophomore from Cario, Epypt won the 1-meter springboard with 373.65 points and the 3-meter springboard with 373.95 points, recording new personal bests in each event.
The Pac-12 Women’s Swimming and Diving/Men’s Diving Championships (Feb. 21-24) and the Pac-12 Men’s Swimming Championships (Feb. 28-Mar. 3) will be held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
