The University of Buffalo men put on a dominant performance against Miami (OH) last weekend. The final score was 230.5 to 76.5 in favor of the Bulls.

BUFFALO, NY- The UB men’s swimming and diving team built upon their win over Niagara on Friday by blowing out MAC opponent Miami (OH) 230.5-76.5. In the process to winning their first conference meet of the year, Nick Rodriguez broke the school’s one-meter diving record (duals) and earned nine team points with a score of 359.85. Dan Roche andDerek Linebaugh finished second and third in the same event picking up seven combined with scores of 330.23 and 312.15, respectively.
In the pool the Bulls won all 14 events in the pool with them also sweeping the top-three placements in seven of the individual events.
Billy Patrum won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:51.76 and finished the day by winning the 200 yard IM. He improved his season-best time in the IM by more than a second by swimming the race in 1:55.05. Adding to his two first-place finishes, Patrum placed second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:39.73. In the 200 yard IM Garrett Clarke andCharles Barry finished second and third as well.
Clarke finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.64. He also finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Reid Zyniecki raced to a second-place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle and a first-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with times of 9:32.91 and 4:38.59, respectively. His time in the 1,000 yard freestyle race was his best time of the 2015-16 season.
Itai De La Vega had a strong day for UB by finishing first place in the 100 yard breaststroke and was on the winning relay team in the 200 yard medley relay. Bill Caffee finished third in three events, 1000 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle, and the 200 IM where he was swimming in exhibition.
Mason Miller edged out Aaron Durrence by .01 seconds to win the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.20. Durrence won the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 46.23 with Antonio Lanziand Martin Leigh placing second and third.
UB’s women’s and diving team will be home on January 23 when they face Ohio in MAC play, while the men’s team returns to action when they travel to Ohio St. for a quad meet on January 30. At the meet the Bulls will face top Big 10 teams in the nation in Michigan, West Virginia, and the Buckeyes.
Miami (OH):
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Miami University’s men’s swimming and diving team fell to the Buffalo Bulls, 230.5-76.5, in their first travel meet of 2016. Buffalo was the first MAC opponent Miami has faced this season. Saturday’s loss moves the RedHawks’ conference record to 0-1.
Despite their loss, the team still had top performers in a number of events. The divers had another successful meet, particularly in the three-meter competition where the RedHawks turned in a one-two finish. Senior Cole Fryman claimed first with a total of 357.53 points followed by freshman Harrison Moncino in second (339.53).
There was a tie for first in the 200-yard backstroke between Hudson Carroll of Buffalo and Miami’s own freshman Jake Precious. Precious completed the race in 1:52.28 with senior Davis the next nearest RedHawk finishing in fourth.
Other top performers for Miami included senior Christopher Dieter who took second in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 1:42.88. Breaststroke specialist Evan Bader also turned in a second-place finish for the RedHawks after he turned in a time of 2:07.35 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Miami took earned a second-place finish thanks to the combined efforts of junior Jack Strauss, senior Jacob Prodoehl, sophomore Ross Westrick and Dieter. The four swam to a combined team time of 3:06.85.
The RedHawks return to Oxford for their next competition when they face Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
