BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore Clara Renner won three individual events and freshman Tori Castro won two, including the sixth-fastest time in team history in the 100-yard butterfly, and had a hand in both winning relays as the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 214-85 victory at Loyola Maryland on Friday afternoon. Senior Jennifer Bolden also won twice, and the Bison claimed all but one swimming event while improving to 5-2 in dual meets this season.

Bucknell’s 13 event wins included six 1-2-3 sweeps and two other 1-2 finishes. The Bison built a commanding early lead thanks to a win in the 200-yard medley relay followed by sweeps in the first three individual events.

Natalia GajeckiHanna Bingley, Castro, and Sara Ketron pulled out a close win the opening relay in a time of 1:42.92, which was just .05 off their No. 9 all-time mark set in November at the Bucknell Invitational. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Renner set the tone in the individual events with a win in the 1,000 free (10:22.86), with Emma Briganti less than two seconds behind and Kelly Byrne taking third.

Bolden (1:51.28), Kyla Kelly, and Virginia Hastings claimed the top three spots in the 200 free, and then Gajecki (56.72), Alivia Wainwright, and Sofia Burns made it a freshman-freshman-sophomore sweep of the 100 backstroke.

Bingley got in the win column in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.86), edging out teammate Sydney Jee for the top spot. Renner followed with her second win of the day in the 200 fly, with her winning time of 2:02.46 about a half-second ahead of teammate Sydney Dettmann.

Castro went 23.61 to win the 50 free, with Ketron (23.73) and Kennedy DeVeaux (24.00) close behind. Bolden won the 100 free in 51.88, with Ketron and Hastings finishing third and fourth.

Loyola picked up its lone swimming win from Lauren Lane in the 200 backstroke, but the Bison came right back with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke from Sydney Jee (2:20.44), Byrne, and Bingley, followed by Renner’s six-second win in the 500 free.

Castro swam 55.43 in winning the 100 fly. She entered the top-10 last week with a 55.68 at Army, and now she moves from ninth to a tie for sixth (with Renner) in Bucknell history.

Bucknell closed it out with Hastings (2:05.20), Kelly, Byrne, and Jee going 1-2-3-4 in the 200 IM, and Castro, Dettmann, Ketron, and Bolden winning the 400 free relay in 3:28.72.

Loyola’s Annie Dockx won both diving events, with Bucknell’s Natalie Penman placing second on the 3-meter board (243.68) and Ruby Olliffe the runner-up in the 1-meter event (252.46).

The Bison are right back in action on Saturday at home against La Salle at 1 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on YouTube.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior diver Jackson Vinarub and freshman butterflyer Jason Kellerman hit big personal bests to move up on Bucknell’s all-time lists, but the Bison men’s swimming and diving squad fell 172-128 to Loyola Maryland on Friday afternoon. Bucknell won six events, including both diving competitions, but a good Greyhounds team that finished third behind the two service academies at last year’s Patriot League Championships had a bit more depth in this one.

Vinarub and classmate Jack Krug were victorious on the diving boards. Vinarub won the 3-meter event with a big score of 321.15. That bettered his previous PR of 307.80 and moved him up one spot to No. 2 in team history, now one spot ahead of Krug (312.80). David Magaro set the school record with a 343.55 mark at the 2011 Patriot League championships. Earlier in the meet, Krug won the 1-meter dive with a 290.55, about nine points behind his best mark, which is also No. 3 all-time. Connor Thurston was second in the 1-meter dive (266.48).

Kellerman, William ShoemakerDante Buonadonna, and Drew Davis were Bucknell’s winners in the swimming events. Kellerman claimed the 200-yard butterfly in a 1-2 finish with Shane Wynne. Kellerman’s time of 1:47.26 moved him from eighth to fourth on Bucknell’s all-time list. The freshman nearly jumped into the top-10 in the 100 fly later in the day, but his time of 49.16 was just .04 outside the rankings.

Davis is also off to a strong start in his rookie season. Davis (1:50.95) and Kellerman (1:51.70) went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley, and Davis was also Bucknell’s top finisher in the 200 backstroke (second, 1:49.55) and 100 backstroke (fourth, 50.56).

Shoemaker and Buonadonna won the first two individual events of the meet to get the Bison going after Loyola went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay. Shoemaker posted a six-second victory in the 1000 free in 9:26.05, and then the sophomore duo of Buonadonna (1:40.67) and Damian Czartoryjski (1:41.29) grabbed the top two places in the 200 free.

Finn Russell turned in a good swim in the 50 free (20.74), finishing just a tenth of a second behind Loyola’s Derek Feldman, and he later anchored the runner-up 400 free relay (3:03.32) behind Czartoryjski, Colin Smith, and Drew Greene.

Shoemaker added a runner-up finish in the 500 free (4:35.59), with Alex Crossing third.

The Bison are right back in action on Saturday at home against La Salle at 1 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on YouTube.
