Bobby Finke Elaborates on 16×100 IM Best Average Florida Pro Group Set – There Was More

2023 PRO SWIM SERIES – WESTMONT

As if the 16×100 best average weekly progression didn’t seem hard enough, Finke actually had more to add. Once they finished their 100s in the outdoor long course pool, they would go inside and do 20x (100 fast swim @ 1:00, 50 fast kick @1:00).

That kind of a set is stomach-churning. LC best average on 1:20 is absolutely unpalatable for all but the mid-d and distance elites.

Terrible article.

What was the interval for 16×100?

The video has details. The 100s weren’t IM, though it’s is an IM progression set.

For 9 Thursdays he’d swim (LCM) 4 x (4x100s best average on 1:20, 4×50 fast kick). First week was Fly, 2nd week Back, 3rd week Breast, no Free week, then back to Fly… Bobby said the hardest weeks were Fly and Back because his Breaststroke is already terrible. He’d hold 1:03, down to 1:02 for the Backstroke.

Then they’d go inside and swim 20 x (100 fast, 50 fast kick on 1:00). He made it clear that it was 40 intervals on 1:00. 20 100s and 20 50s.

Just adding detail, as established from the Kieran video, the weeks they did breast the interval was 1:30.

Great breakdown in writing. I love to see the 50s fast k on a minute. Strong legs and that’s where they get rest. Fantastic beast of a set.

They need to indicate which “articles” are videos and which are not either from the thumbnails (with a “play” icon overlaid) or prepend “WATCH:” to the titles of these. It’s the most irritating part of the site
