SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. –The Delaware swimming and diving teams made the quick turnaround and competed for the second time in as many days, this time at Seton Hall, where the women edged the Big East foe, 154-140, while the men suffered a 181-117 defeat.
“Another great day for our Blue Hens. They showed a lot of heart to swim against a very good Big East rival after our senior meet last night,” said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. “It has been a rough 48 hours and their training really kicked in in the second half of the meet. I am very pleased with where the team is heading into our last dual meet of the season and preparation for CAA’s.”
Freshman Mira Selling got the Blue Hens their first win of the afternoon in the 200 free in 1:52.31 to edge classmate Natalie Dobrzykowski who was second and junior Audrey Duvall who placed third. Selling also claimed the women’s 50 yard free in 24.34 and 500 yard free in 5:01.48. She also led the 400 yard free relay team to a victory to closeout her busy afternoon, teaming up with sophomores Ally Gozdan and Kelsie Drennen and freshman Rainna Tomlin.
Freshman Marrieta Gately was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:07.41 and was second in the 200 yard breaststroke behind teammate sophomore Taylor Draganosky, who was first to the wall in 2:23.82. Dobrzykowski won the 100 yard free in 53.12.
In diving, sophomore Jessica Antonio was runner-up in both the 1 and 3-meter while freshman Doug Vaca won both varieties with scores of 266.84 269.56, respectively.
Senior Kevin Basch added to his illustrious career with wins in the 1000 yard freestyle in a season-best 9:31.97 and the 500 free in another season-best 4:36.46.
Junior Kevin Bargate was first to the wall in the 100 yard fly in 51.40 and had a third-place finish in the 200 yard free.
The Blue Hens are back in the water Jan. 24 when they travel to CAA foe Towson for a 5 p.m. start.

South Orange, N.J. – The Pirates continued their strong season when they picked up a victory over Delaware on Saturday, 181-117. The meet as served as the last home meet for five Seton Hall seniors: Jonathan Bar-Eli (Givat Ela, Israel), Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.), Tyler Kauth (Wall, N.J.), Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) and Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.).
The Pirates got off to a hot start winning the 200 Medley Relay with a team comprised of Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.), Thomas Staes (Berlaar, Belgium), Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) and Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.). Minar touched the wall in a time of 1:32.84 to seal things for The Hall.
Pantano would go on to take first in both the 100 and 200 Backstrokes with times of 51.19 and 54.75, respectively. Also from the first place Medley Relay team, Minar went on to win the 50 Free, 100 Free and was part of the first place 400 Free Relay team to round out his strong day.
Staes had himself a solid afternoon following his hot start. Staes would take first in the 100 and 200 Breastrokes with times of 56.63 and 2:04.37. The sophomore also went on to pace the pool in 200 IM with a time of 1:55.90.
Overall, eight different Pirates took a share of first place while The Hall secured first in 11 different events.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, January 25 when they travel to Philadelphia, Penn., to take on La Salle at 3 p.m.
