Auburn University Receives Commitment from Jenna Smith for 2021-22

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jenna Smith, a current high school junior from Greenwood Village, Colorado, has committed to swim for Division I Auburn University under coach Gary Taylor. Smith will graduate from Cherry Creek High School in spring 2021 and join the Tigers’ class of 2025, pending receipt of her appointment.

Smith is a current year-round swimmer for the University of Denver Hilltoppers. The Winter Junior National qualifier also swims for her high school at Cherry Creek. Earlier this year at the 2020 CHSAA 5A State Championships, Smith placed 3rd in the 200 IM (2:04.81).

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, friends and especially family for helping make this possible. I can’t wait to be an Auburn Tiger! WAR EAGLE!!! 🧡💙🦅 #wde

This year at the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships with the Tigers, Smith would have placed just outside of scoring finals with her current best times as a junior. Most notably, Smith would have been a little over two-tenths of a second away from C-finals in the 100 freestyle with a best time of 50.07.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 breaststroke – 1:05.63
  • 100 butterfly – 55.19
  • 200 IM – 2:04.18

At the SEC Championships this year, the Tigers placed 8th as a team with the Auburn women placing 1st in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.41) and 400 freestyle relay (3:09.18). The Tigers’ 400 freestyle relay won the race by over two seconds.

The team’s 200 freestyle relay completely crushed Auburn’s school record to become the 2nd fastest 200 freestyle relay in NCAA history. Auburn’s Julia Meynen, Claire Fisch, AJ Kutsch and Robyn Clevenger swam the relay in a time of 1:25.41, destroying the former time by nearly two seconds.

In addition, 19 of the team’s swimmers were named to the CSCAA All-American team.

Smith will begin her swimming career at Auburn University fall 2021.
