Marlins of Raleigh Senior Ashlyn Walton Commits to American University

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Raleigh, North Carolina, native Ashlyn Walton has announced her  commitment to swim DI for American University this fall.

Of her commitment, Walton told SwimSwam:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academics and athletics DI at American University! HUGE thanks to my parents, friends, and coaches for getting me here. Can’t wait to be an American Eagle!”

Walton graduated with the class of 2019 this past spring from Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC. She competed for her high school as well as with the Marlins of Raleigh, a year-round USA Swimming Gold Medal Club (ranked second in the US). Walton focuses on distance freestyle, but she also swims the 100 and 200 butterfly. During this past year’s month-and-a-half long NC championship and post-championship season, she dropped nearly four seconds in the 500 free, ten seconds in the 1650 free, and a second in the 200 free.

Walton was the first of AU’s class of 2023 verbal commits. Next year, she will be joining AU’s rising junior Ellie Kight in leading the Eagles’ distance freestylers; with her current best times, Walton would have been the sixth seed on the team in the 200 free and second seed in the 500 and 1650 to Kight last season. Walton would have out-touched Kight in the 500 at the 2019 Patriot League Championships, but would also have just missed the B final by about two seconds. In the timed-final 1650, Walton would have placed 17th behind Boston University’s rising sophomore Joanna McNulty.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 free = 1:58.18
  • 500 free = 5:06.41
  • 1650 free = 17:30.58
  • 100 fly = 1:00.03
  • 200 fly = 2:08.81
