TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Utah’s swim and dive team finish its first dual meet this season against the University of Arizona Wildcats, earning mixed results after the men’s team claims the victory, but the women fall by two points at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Ariz. on Saturday morning.
Bringing in twenty-six medals on day two, the Utes successfully finished their first dual meet of the 2024-2025 season. Though the women’s team fell short by two points, bringing in a total of 149 to the Wildcats’ 151, the men’s team were able to come out on top, 159.5 to Arizona’s 140.5.
“What a great meet from both teams today, they all swam and dove really well. Unfortunately, the women fell short, but we should be pleased that we were so close,” said head coach Jonas Persson.

“We came back strong today and put together a very solid meet. There are thing we could have done better, but being our first meet of the year, on the road and against a tough opponent, we competed very well. It’s probably the best first meet we’ve had as a team, both diving and swimming, in my 15 seasons here,” said head diving coach Richard Marschner.
On the Boards
- Six Utes earn an NCAA Zone cut.
- Nilsson Garip, senior Holly Waxman, freshman Callie Eaglestone and junior Kathryn Grant all earned their 3m Zones cut.
- Petersen and graduate Jesco Helling both earned their Zones cut with their 1m performances.
- Helling’s score earned him a spot at third, his first medal of the season.
“We’re looking forward to coming home to take on UNLV and then on to Texas in a few weeks,” said Marschner.
“The men got a firm win, which was very well deserved. I am very pleased and proud of both teams. We still have a lot of work to do, but now we have a better look at what we need to work on,” said Persson.
Looking Ahead
The Utes head back home to host their first dual meet of the season against UNLV on Nov. 1 in the Ute Natatorium.
