Sprinter Katherine Wagner, from Chatsworth, California, has added her name to the growing list of commits to Bob Bowman’s Arizona State University swimming and diving team for the 2016-17 season. Wagner swims for Bishop Alemany High School and has recently joined Canyons Aquatics.
“I chose Arizona State because when I walked onto the campus it felt like home. I love the team and am super excited to be swimming for such a prestigious group of coaches. I’m also happy that I can major in Film.”
Wagner is a nice complement to the already-committed group of Sun Devils, the first true sprinter of the class:
- Bentley Hulshof – distance free
- Carly Kramer – fly/ back
- Chloe Isleta – IM/back
- Emily Glinecke – breast/free/IM
- Marlies Ross – IM/free/back
A senior at Bishop Alemany and a 6-time individual CIF-SS finalist (2x “A” final, 1x “B” final in the 50; 2x “A” in the 100; 1x “A” in the 200 freestyles), Wagner holds the Alemany records in the 50/100/200 free, and the Mission League records in the 50 and 200 free. Her top SCY times over the last two years are:
- 50 free – 23.07
- 100 free – 50.37
- 200 free – 1:51.04
- 50 back – 26.80
- 100 back – 57.10
Wagner has had a difficult time over the last year and a half, having suffered a couple of sprained ankles that affected her performance. Nevertheless, her 50 and 100 freestyle times would score for ASU already at Pac-12 Championships, and with a little improvement, she will be a formidable force on the Sun Devils’ relays as well.
Wagner shared with SwimSwam, “I feel my training is back on track and am happy to be at Canyons Aquatics training with Coley Stickels.”
