World Juniors Swimmer Monica Leydar Commits To Arizona State For 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Monica Leydar from Caracas, Venezuela has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Arizona State beginning in fall 2026.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Arizona State University🔱! I want to thank my family and friends for their love and support throughout this journey. And also a very special thank you to my coach Juan Francisco Morales, I wouldn’t be here without your guidance and belief in me. I also want to thank the entire @sundevilswimdive coaching staff for this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to join such an amazing team and start this next chapter in my life! FORKS UP!”

Leydar has represented Venezuela at the international on numerous occasions, including at the 2025 World Junior Championships in Romania. There she had her highest finish come in the 200 fly as she was 20th in a 2:15.74, about two seconds off her lifetime best. She was also highlighted by a personal best 2:20.60 in the 200 IM which she swam to finish 31st overall.

Earlier in August 2025, she swam at Junior Pan Ams. There she was most notably 4th in the 200 butterfly as she touched in a lifetime best 2:13.98. She also was 4th in the 400 IM in a 4:57.76.

Leydar’s Best LCM Times (With SCY Conversions) Are:

  • 200 fly: 2:13.98 (1:58.18)
  • 100 fly: 1:01.72 (54.34)
  • 400 IM: 4:56.75 (4:21.57)
  • 200 IM: 2:20.60 (2:03.78)

The Arizona State women just captured the 2026 Big 12 title with 1660.5 points, finishing over 200 points ahead of 2nd place Arizona (1442.5 points). The Sun Devil women were led by Albane Cachot who won the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free conference titles.

Based on her best converted times, Leydar would already make the Big 12 ‘A’ final of the 200 fly as she would have been 4th. Deniz Ertan (1:56.31) and Julia Ullman (1:57.29) notably went 1-2 in the event for Arizona State. Leydar’s 400 IM converted time would have made the conference ‘B’ final.

Leydar will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Olivia Colombo, Belis Sakar, Rowynn Biffart, Lilly Jayne Allison, Ellie Chalupsky, Riley Christensen, Haddie Vohs, Maya Hetland, and Alyssa Albertyn.
