Shaine Casas dropped 76 seconds in the 400 IM today, posting a 4:16.37 for 2nd at the Westmont Pro Series tonight. Casas entered the day with a lifetime best 5:32.00 from June 2013.
Casas swam to a 4:27.08 this morning, a lifetime best by over a minute. His two swims today marked only his 4th and 5th times ever swimming the long course 400 IM during his career.
Despite not competing in the 400 IM in 13 years, Casas is one of the top US Performers all-time in the long course 200 IM. His best time of a 1:54.30 sits as the #3 American all-time only behind Ryan Lochte (1:54.00) and Michael Phelps (1:54.16).
Casas’s time tonight would have been 4th at 2025 US Summer Nationals, only behind Bobby Finke (4:07.46), Carson Foster (4:07.92), and Rex Maurer (4:09.65).

This is a guy who went 3:38 in yards in 2020 swimming for TAMU. It was a foregone conclusion that he’d be faster than 5:32 or even that 4:27.
Aww dang it, my days of having a faster PB than Shaine Casas in something seem to have finally come to an end 🙁
go look at his 200 LCM Fly
Unless Bob enters him in it at his next meet
… WHEN bob enters him in
No split comparisons??
Big drop like that usually means there’s more on the way. Stay tuned.
That’s a overstated assumption when the “big drop” drop is effectively the first race ever.(Or since childhood 12 years ago in this case.)
… that was a joke you know, right?
Slower than a snail.
Wym he hasn’t raced the 4IM since he was 13?! His coach was never like “you’re swimming the 4IM this meet” when he was like 17? 😭
He wasn’t consistently swimming club as a high schooler. I think summer 2017 was his first true experience with a club team but before that was mainly with his high school.
Also, why would he?
You didn’t see Usain Bolt running the 800.
76 seconds improvement for 13 years.
5,84 seconds per year.
It’s not that gigantic. 😄
You’re missing the point. With a 5.84 second per year drop he’s projected to go 4:04.68 in LA.
Book it.
Ridiculously enough this might only be good for silver
Leon should def be faster than that
