Women’s Meet Recap

The NYU women came out on top of MIT by just 18 points after a close meet saw them trade victories back and forth.

MIT started the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay with the team of Sydney Smith (56.71), Sarah Bernard (1:06.57), Belise Swartwood (55.99), and Ella Roberson (50.09) swam 3:49.36 to come in eight tenths ahead of the Williams College ‘A’ team, who touched in 3:50.19. NYU was 3rd in 3:52.17.

NYU picked up their 1st win of the meet with a tie in the women’s 200 freestyle with teammates Llew Ladomirak and Kaley McIntyre swimming 1:52.13 to tie for 1st ahead of MIT’s Jessie Crane.

MIT followed that up with a win in the 100 backstroke courtesy of junior Sydney Smith, who touched in 56.18 to win by a little over a tenth ahead of NYU’s Maeve O’Donnell. Smith also won the 100 fly for the Engineers in 56.55, beating Williams’ Esme Van Orden‘s 56.96.

She also swam what appears to be the top time in the women’s 200 breast of 2:21.66. The official results show Williams College freshman Nora Sherman as the winner, but her listed time of 1:54.16 is not accurate, especially since her best 100 breast time is 1:04.96.

The Violets picked up their 2nd straight win of the meet, the first team to win two in a row, in the women’s 200 fly. Senior Nicole Ranile swam 2:03.12, winning by more than a second over Lily Codd from Williams.

MIT bounced back with two straight wins in the sprint freestyle events thanks to junior Ella Roberson.
