Bucknell Men and Women Dominate La Salle in Dual Meet at Kinney Natatorium

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Finn Franks led the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team with two wins as the Bison defeated La Salle 183-114 at the Kinney Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Bison gathered 10 event wins and had six 1-2 finishes and 31 top-three finishes among the events.

The Bison got off to a great start in the 200 medley relay with the top-two spots. Drew DavisMatt RaudabaughFinn Russell and Drew Greene won the event with a time of 1:31.69. Caleb HagadornJames LombardiJason Kellerman and Colin Smith followed with a second-place finish in 1:33.27.

William Shoemaker won the 1,000 free, and Alex Crossing took second. Shoemaker won by more than 12 seconds with a time of 9:56.71. Crossing swam a time of 10:08.88 in the event.

Franks won his first event in the 200 free in 1:42.23. Dante Buonadonna (1:42.43) followed in second and Damian Czartoryjski (1:42.49) took third.

Davis won the 100 back with a time of 50.49. Kellerman took fifth in the event, posting a time of 51.84. The Bison went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast. Lombardi was the winner with a time of 57.27. Raudabaugh (57.49) was close behind in second and Evan Hepburn (59.05) claimed third.

La Salle won the 200 fly, but the Bison went 2-3-4-5 to take the points 10-9 in the event. Riley Twiss (1:55.44) finished in second, followed by Shane Wynne (1:56.45), Braden Beagle (1:59.36) and Nikita Bityutski (2:02.11).

Russell took second in the 50 free in 20.96. Smith took third with a time of 21.06 and Greene placed third in 21.43.

Jack Krug won the one-meter dive with a score of 296.40. Krug was just three points of his personal best which sits third on Bucknell’s top-10 lists. Krug later took fourth in the three-meter with a score of 263.55. Jackson Vinarub took fourth in the one-meter (256.65) and took fifth in the three-meter (262.58).

Smith had another top-three finish with a second-place finish in the 100 free in 46.03. Greene followed in third with a time of 46.55. In the 200 back, Kellerman posted a second-place finish with a time of 1:52.78. Hagadorn took fourth and Beagle took fifth in the event.

Raudabaugh won the 200 breast as the Bison went 1-2-3. He won the event in 2:09.25, followed by Hepburn (2:11.04) in second and Buonadonna (2:11.33) in third.

The Bison took the top-four spots in the 500 free. Franks won his second event of the day, swimming a time of 4:40.75, followed by Crossing (4:41.85), Twiss (4:47.82), and Shoemaker (4:51.34).

Davis posted another top-two finish in the 100 fly. He took second with a time of 50.54. Russell followed with a third-place finish in 51.17 and Wynne took fourth in 52.52.

Kellerman won the 200 IM in 1:53.32. Caleb Kubiak took third (1:55.81), Buonadonna took fourth (1:58.07) and Avery Kuhn took fifth (1:58.39).

The Bison are back in action next Saturday as Lehigh comes to town for a 1 p.m. meet at the Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell will celebrate its 16 seniors with a recognition at 12:45 p.m.

The Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team won 10 events on its way to defeating La Salle 188-112 on Saturday afternoon at the Kinney Natatorium. Kyla Kelly and Clara Renner  won two events each as eight different Bison won individual events. Bucknell (6-2, 5-2 PL) had five 1-2-3 finishes and six 1-2 finishes in events.

The Bison started the day off by going 2-3 in the 200 medley relay. The Bison went 1-2-3 over the next two events, taking the majority of points in the 1,000 free and the 200 free. Tessa Feld won the 1,000 free in 10:45.31, followed by Emma Briganti (10:46.72) in second and Hanna Klingensmith (10:54.21) in third.

In the 200 free, Sydney Dettmann had the top time at 1:53.51. Virginia Hastings took second in the event in 1:54.92 and Kennedy DeVeaux in third in 1:55.93.

Natalia Gajecki and Alivia Wainwright went 1-2 in the 100 back. Gajecki won with a time of 58.38 and Wainwright was right behind her with a time of 58.83. Sofia Burns took fourth in the event in 59.37.

La Salle won the 100 breast, but the Bison took four of the top-five spots to take the event 10-9 on points. Sydney Jee took second in 1:05.56, followed by Hanna Bingley (1:05.60), Kelly (1:05.85) and Kelly Byrne (1:07.21).

Renner’s first win of the day came in the 200 fly by nearly three seconds, swimming a time of 2:05.94. Joslin Halsey (2:08.97) took fourth in the event and Emma Feld (2:15.35) took fifth.

Hastings, Tori Castro and Jennifer Bolden went 2-3-4 in the 50 free. Hastings swam a time of 24.51 as Castro (24.53) and Bolden (24.65) were close behind.

Ruby Olliffe was the highest scoring Bison in the one-meter dive with a score of 234.00 to take third. Dea Mielenz took fourth in the event with a score of 233.63. Mielenz later took second in the three-meter dive with a score of 237.15. Natalie Penman scored a 234.38 in the three-meter to take fourth.

Kelly picked up her first win of the day in the 100 free with a time of 52.57. Bolden took second in 53.00 and Castro followed in third in 54.41. Wainwright won the 200 back in 2:07.00 in the next event. Hastings took fifth in the event to help the Bison win on points.

In the 200 breast, the Bison won 10-9 on points as Jee, Bingley, Ava Stallmeyer and DeVeaux went 2-3-4-5. Byrne won the 500 free in 5:07.24 as the Bison had the top four times. Dettmann (5:11.81) took second, Briganti (5:23.02) took third and Brooke Worth (5:28.95) took fourth.

Renner’s second win of the day came in the 100 fly, swimming a time of 57.02. Halsey took fourth with a time of 58.31.

Kelly took her second win of the day in the 200 IM. She swam a time of 2:06.50, followed by Renner in second with a time of 2:07.45. Emma Feld took fifth in the event in 2:14.04.

The Bison ended the day with a win in the 400 free relay. Castro, Ketron, Bolden and Hastings won the with a time of 3:33.30. DeVeaux, Halsey, Gajecki and Keira Giles took third with a time of 3:37.40.

The Bison are back in action next Saturday as Lehigh comes to town for a 1 p.m. meet at the Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell will celebrate its 16 seniors with a recognition at 12:45 p.m.
