The planned expansion of the aquatic center in Herning, Denmark, host of last December’s European Short Course Championships, has selected a construction bid, and all signs point to construction beginning this fall.
The pool was originally built as two short-course meters tanks made from pieces of the London Olympic and Barcelona World Champs pools. The longstanding plan has been to expand the facility to a long-course format after the European Championships, and that task appears to be moving forward. C.C. Contractor’s bid was selected, and the organization plans to break ground on the expansion this October.
The bid comes to about $67 million, and will make the facility the largest indoor pool in Denmark. Tentative plans have it reopening in October of 2015.
