Collin Holgerson hacked nearly four seconds from his best time in the 200 backstroke tonight to take the win at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East in 1:39.74. He beat out top seed Baylor Stanton by eight-tenths of a second, with both going under their best times tonight.

Holgerson has had some huge swims at this meet, with this being his third title of the week. After taking silver in the 200 IM in 1:43.23, a 1.3 second PB, he has rattled off three straight event wins.

He won the 100 breast and 100 back in back-to-back events last night, swimming 52.21 and 44.94 to set hefty new best times. The latter was a new Meet Record, cracking Will Modglin‘s mark from 2022, and he is the fastest high-schooler in history in the 100 back despite only being a junior.

His swim here makes him just the eighth 17-18 year old to crack the 1:40 mark. He was faster across the board compared to his previous best, set this March.

Split Comparison

Split Previous PB – GA SA Best of the South, March 2025 New PB – Speedo Winter Junior Championships, December 2025
50 24.02 23.07
100 50.27 (26.25) 48.38 (25.31)
150 1:16.63 (26.36) 1:14.35 (23.97)
200 1:43.34 (26.71) 1:39.73 (25.38)

He opened nearly two seconds faster, and his first 100 of 48.38 was just 1.6 seconds off his 100 back best of 46.87 entering this meet – and that time tonight was to the feet, not the touch.

His swim tonight renders him the 7th-fastest 17-18 year-old boy in history in the event, and the fourth-fastest high-schooler behind Ryan Murphy (1:38.15), Jack Conger (1:38.75), and Daniel Diehl (1:39.01).
