2025 SWIM ENGLAND NATIONAL WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

On the heels of the 2025 European Short Course Championships, the four-day Swim England National Winter Championships kicked off today from the storied Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, England.

Among the top performers on day one was University of Texas ace Eva Okaro, with the 19-year-old Olympian making her presence known in the women’s 100m freestyle.

Repton’s Okaro stopped the clock at a super swift performance of 51.74, clearing the field by well over a second.

Okaro opened in 25.04 and brought it home in 26.70 to establish the 3rd fastest time of her young career. Her personal best remains at the 51.48 notched in the semi-finals of the event in Lublin. She ultimately placed 4th in this women’s 1free event in Lublin with a mark of 51.63.

Harriet Rogers posted 53.27 to scoop up silver as Sheffield’s Kate Clifton put up 53.91 as the bronze medalist.

The men’s 50m butterfly saw 22-year-old Bath swimmer Josh Gammon bust out a result of 22.19 to hold a healthy advantage over his competitors

Teammate Jacob Peters settled for silver in 22.42 as Manchester’s Jamie Ingram rounded out the podium in 22.74

Gammon’s effort is his fastest-ever, rendering him GBR’s #3 performer of all time.

Some pleasantly surprising swims – Cam Booker and Tyler Melbourne-Smith the biggest surprises. Like Matt Richards, Tyler is eligible to opt for Wales despite growing up in England and I believe he will do so, so the Welsh 4×2 may have an outside chance at the podium in Glasgow.

Nice to see Harriet Rogers back on track too, a precocious talent at 15/16 but regressed at Loughborough.

Weird Tyler’s swim didnt get a mention here (yet), hope that just means he’ll get his own article. I mean he just dropped a time that puts him in the top 20 all time performers and would’ve won euro sc last week.

Easy to miss things with a lot of meets over the last week or so. But yes, a super swim and very brave – 1.46.1 to the feet is shifting.

Why is he not swimming the 200? His turns are not great, I think he can be our next 1:45 LCM.

He’s dual qualified (England/Wales) and I think he’ll swim for Wales at Commies, will be swimming the 200fr at Welsh Winter Nationals starting 18th December.
