At the US Open in Austin, Kate Douglass swam her first 200 IM since the 2024 Paris Olympics, clocking a 2:07.85 to win the event. That was a US Open championship record and her 7th fastest performance ever in the event.
Douglass said that her break from the event after Paris was intentional and much needed. After time not competing in it, she’s more open to dipping her toes back into the medley waters to see if it’s an event she wants to focus on once again for international competitions.

Hypothetical Event Schedule
World Aquatics Championships
W 4 x 100 FR-R (Day 1)
W 100 BR (Days 2 & 3)
W 200 BR (Days 5 & 6)
W 50 FR (Days 7 & 8)
W 4 x 100 M-R (Day 8)
The heats/semis of the W 200 IM (Day 1) conflicts with the heats/final of the W 4 x 100 FR-R (Day 1) at the World Aquatics Championships.
2027 Worlds mirrors the new Olympic schedule
if were able to get kate again can ask abt what she plans to target at pan pacs? was very glad to see it but was a little surprised that she returned to/seems to be targeting the 200 im this year since theres a quadruple at pan pacs w the 200 im / 50 free / 200 breast / medley relay lol.
Only with a set of options like hers, can you choose whether or not to swim an event where you are clearly one of the best in the world with all chances to medal.
I know you’re a dedicated KD glazer but the exaggerating is just too much. Summer McIntosh, MOC, Kaylee McKeown, Hubert Kos, Leon Marchand, Meg Harris and Lani Pallister all chose not to enter events in the last year that they could have medalled in. Sjostrom and McKeon did it regularly in the past as well.
You don’t have to exaggerate every sentence to make it a glaze.
The event schedule dictates her choices at the World Aquatics Championships. For example, the W 100 BR (Days 2 & 3) does not conflict with the W 4 x 100 FR-R (Day 1) unlike the W 200 IM (Days 1 & 2).
Very well rounded and class act. Interesting to hear she is taking a break over the holidays, well deserved.
bc pan pacs is much later in the season its a pretty tight turnaround into the next season with world championships (sc & lc). for all the consternation abt the pan pacs selection process, a break like that probably wouldnt be as possible/advisable if there were a trials meet next year — it lets the big dogs experiment a bit more w recovery/breaks/different training blocks than would be otherwise possible.
altho i think they should have done a half approach — only let individual medalists autoqualify for pan pacs. i dont think the others necessarily need or deserve a year off from trials lol
The World Aquatics Championships are not scheduled in calendar year 2026.
The Pan Pacs are a Mickey Mouse competition compared to the World Aquatics Championships.
Oh dear oh dear, now we just need to see Alex do better
you love to hate on her and we’d all prefer not to see it
I actually really like her, im just frustrated with her. Who was the swimswam commenter who yelled at her à la tyra banks? Thats the energy im feeling right now.
