Marrit Steenbergen Leads All Earners With $50,000 in Prize Money at Euro SC Championships

2025 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dutch swimmer Marrit Steenbergen came away with $50,000 from last week’s European Short Course Championships, making her easily the top earner of the championships.

Steenbergen won both $25,000 for having the best single performance of the championship, a 1:50.33 in the 200 free that scored 999 AQUA Points, and won an additional $25,000 for her five European Record-setting swims: the 100 free, 200 free, 50 back, 100 IM, and 200 IM.

She was the star of the championships not just for breaking so many records, but for who they formerly belonged to. The freestyle records were previously owned by global sprint freestyle queen Sarah Sjostrom, and the IM records were owned by global IM icon Katinka Hosszu.

European Aquatics employs a prize money system similar to the World Cup, where the final rankings are not based on how many events a swimmer wins, but rather how good their best swim is relative to the World Record.
