WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College swimming & diving picked up wins over Merrimack College and Simmons University on Saturday at Chandler Pool. The Blue narrowly edged out Merrimack, 139-138, while winning a comfortable 217-49 decision over Simmons.
The Blue opened the day by winning the 200 Medley Relay. Seniors Tracey Liu (Princeton, N.J.), Kavita Sekhon (Los Angeles, Calif.), and first-years Alexis Kung (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and Adilene Dela Cruz (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) teamed up for a 1:49.58 showing to earn gold.
Sekhon and first-year Lana Richard (Oakland, Calif.) were top two finishes in the 100 Breaststroke, coming in at 1:05.71 and 1:08.22 respectively. The duo repeated the 1-2 finish in the 200 Breaststroke, with Sekhon winning at 2:27.27 and Richard in second at 2:29.09.
Richard topped the 200 IM with a 2:14.31 time. Sekhon finished second at 2:17.40.
Kung broke the 1-minute mark in the 100 Back, topping the competition at 58.91. First-year Sophia Owen (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored bronze at 1:01.73. Kung also won the 50 Free with a 25.31 second showing and 200 Back at 2:08.55. Sophomore Lily Fender (Burnsville, N.C.) was second in the 200 Back with a 2:11.40 time.
First-year Hannah Machleidt (Middleton, Wis.) and senior Julia Reich (Bronxville, N.Y.) went 2-3 in the 1000 Free. Machleidt claimed second with a personal-best time of 11:22.56 while Reich was third at 12:08.99.
First-year Jolyn Zheng (Irvine, Calif.) swam a 2:20.40 to win the 200 Fly race. Zheng was also the runner-up in the 200 Free, hitting the wall at 2:01.05.
Senior Elsa Marsden (Vienna Va.) captured silver in 1-Meter Diving, scoring 202.65 points. First-year Vicki Huang (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Grace Qiu (Concord, N.H.) competed in their first collegiate event. Huang ended with 110.93 points while Qiu claimed 106.58.
First-year Lucy Choe (Ellicott City, Md.) took home bronze in the 100 Fly, touching the wall at 1:01.67.
Choe, Machleidt, first-year Jessica Zhao (Beijing, China), Reich raced the 200 Free Relay, coming in at 1:43.46 for third place.
The Blue are back in action at Chandler Pool on Friday, November 14 versus Coast Guard Academy.

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Kendra Daily won the 100 free in 53.53 finished second in the 100 back stroke (59.42) and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay in as Merrimack split with Wellesley and Simmons on Saturday.
The Warriors defeated Simmons 239-32 and were edged by Wellesley by one point, 139-138. Neva Sa won the 1,000 freestyle (11:13.53) and finished second in the 100 freestyle. Julia Tejada won the 500 freestyle in 5:23.89, finished third in the 200 free (2:01.62).
“We had a ton of season-best swims today, so the swimmers and divers should all feel individually like they performed really well, but it sure is tough to lose by one,” Merrimack women’s swimming & diving coach Erin Cammann said. “Individually we had a lot of people shine, but collectively we came up a little short. I am both encouraged by the performance and frustrated by the result. But fundamentally the team is in a great place heading into the winter.”
Casey Bednarek won the 200 freestyle (1:59.82), placed second in the 100 butterfly and (1:00.77) and third in the 200 IM (2:17.89).
Cameron Zuliani won the 100 butterfly (1:00.51) and took second in the 50 freestyle (25.54). Camilla De La Rosa placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:28.40) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.39).
Allie Hoovel finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:20.53) and Madison McAloon was third in the 50 freestyle (25.73). Kobi Wong took third in the 200 breaststroke (2:43.43) and Maura Beltrami was third in the 200 butterfly (2:24.77).
Kali Alexa won the 1 meter with 232.20 points and Sophia Ferrara took third.
The Warriors 200 freestyle relay team of McAloon, Keeley Harney, Zuliani and Daily won in a time of 1:39.67, with the Merrimack team of Sa, De La Rosa, Ally Jacques and Emma McCarthy took second in 1:42.62. Daily, De La Rosa, Zuliani and McAloon took second in the 200 medley relay.
The Warriors return to action on Nov. 22nd vs St. Peter’s in Fairfield, Conn.

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Early this morning, the Sharks took on the hard task of competing against the Wellesley Blue and Merrimack Warriors after a long session in the pool last night against Smith College. Despite their best efforts, the Sharks fell to both Wellesley, 217-49, and Merrimack, 239-32, who became newly minted as a Division I team during the 2023-24 season.
By The Numbers:
- The highest placing 200 yard medley relay team for the Sharks was comprised of Laura Luthi, Julia Long, Carli Quinlan and Bee Eckels. The quad came in seventh place with a time of 2:03.73.
- Isabel Barry-Ruiz got her hand on the wall fifth in the 1000 yard freestyle, going a time of 12:44.15.
- Quinlan finished just outside the top three in the 200 yard freestyle. She landed in fourth with a time of 2:01.80.
- Luthi swam to seventh place in the 100 yard backstroke, going 1:10.32.
- Eckels touched the wall in eighth for the 100 yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:18.19.
- Chaelin Humphrey ended the 200 yard butterfly in sixth place with a time of 2:35.88.
- Barry-Ruiz claimed eighth after a quick heat of the 50 yard freestyle. She went a time of 27.68.
- Quinlan made the only appearance in the top three with a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.38.
- Barry-Ruiz earned seventh place in the 200 yard backstroke, going 2:34.16.
- Long powered through the 200 yard breaststroke to land in fifth place with a time of 2:55.21.
- Anna Kelly found herself in eighth place at the end of the 500 yard freestyle after she went 6:00.87.
- Humphrey once again tackled the butterfly, this time ending up in eighth with a time of 1:10.44 in the 100 yard distance.
- Eckels swam to a seventh place finish in the 200 yard individual medley, coming in at 2:32.72.
- The highest placing 200 yard freestyle relay for the Sharks was the team of Quinlan, Luthi, Barry-Ruiz and Eckels who secured sixth place (1:48.82).
- For diving, both Melanie Powers and Autumn Welch dove exhibition. Powers ended the afternoon with a score of 162.83 and Welch with 140.78.
On Friday, Nov. 14, the Sharks will host the University of New England at 6 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center.
