Ball State Picks Up Dominant Sweep of Bellarmine

MUNCIE, Ind. – In front of a packed Lewellen Aquatic Center, the Ball State women’s swimming and diving program took the top placement in 11 of 11 events Saturday afternoon, sweeping Bellarmine to complete a 158-47 victory over the Knights at home.

The meet saw eight different Cardinals secure first place finishes, led by Ava Butterfield who captured her second and third individual event wins of the season, touching the wall first in the 200 IM (2:09.59) and 100 backstroke (57.37). Butterfield also led the winning 200 medley relay team to open the meet (1:44.92), joining Anna KeenPayton Kelly and Kiley Zoeller.

The freshmen dominance versus Ohio the day before continued its way into the afternoon, as Addy CzarneckiAddie Beasley and Reagan Graves each contributed to Ball State’s individual event win total. Czarnecki stamped a dominating time of 10:33.58 in the 1000 freestyle, finishing 19 seconds ahead of second place. Beasley took first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.47), her second individual win of the year, while Graves saw a win in the 500 freestyle (5:10.20), her first of the season.

Also earning their first wins of the year were Savannah Farlee, who place first in the 100 butterfly (56.36), and Haley Sakbun who placed first in the 100 freestyle (54.12). Farlee was followed my Milagros Amione (57.45) and Haley Johnson (58.53) to complete a top three sweep.

In the 50 freestyle, Kelly placed first with a time of 23.05, setting her third Lewellen Pool record of the weekend and earning her seventh individual event win of the year.

Anna Keen took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:04.91.

Ball State closed the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.19), thanks to the team of Alyssa Messenger, Sakbun, Kiran Stauffer and Kelly.

Next up, the women compete at the House of Champions, hosted by IU Indy Nov. 20-22.

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men’s swimming and diving program put together a dominating performance versus Bellarmine inside of the packed Lewellen Aquatic Center, putting together 11 event wins to defeat the Knights 152-53.

Jacob Siewers picked up two freestyle victories, placing first in the 50 (21.33) and 100 (45.87) freestyles.

The men opened and closed the afternoon with relay victories, as the team of William RachesAidan BiddleAJ Friend and Benjamin Clarkston started things off with a time of 1:31.34 in the 200 medley relay. Friend and Clarkston later joined forces with Siewers and George Patterson to place first in the 400 freestyle relay (3:04.31).

Tommy Brunner claimed the top placement in the longest event of the afternoon, placing first in the 1000 freestyle (9:58.23).

Patterson continued his early collegiate success, picking up a win in the 200 IM (1:54.71) and earning his third individual event win of the season. Freshmen Henry Ko and Colin Walrond also hit their strides, with Ko taking first in the 500 freestyle (4:46.32) and Walrond earning his inaugural collegiate win in the 100 backstroke (51.40)

Malcolm Slater rounded out the men’s freestyle success with a win in the 200 (1:42.09).

Also earning individual event wins against the Knights were Biddle in the 100  breaststroke (56.51) and Benjamin Clarkston in the 100 butterfly (50.69).

On the boards, Zach Shaddy and Porter Brovont earned NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks, with Shaddy scoring 305.40 in the 1M and 322.58 on the 3M, and Brovont scoring 322.35 on the 3M.

Following the win at home, the men travel to IU Indy Nov. 20-22 to compete at House of Champions.

MUNCIE, In. – The Bellarmine University swim teams continued their fall schedule this past weekend, traveling to Ball State for a dual where the Cardinals came out victorious on both the men’s and women’s side at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

After defeating the men in last year’s meeting, the Knight fell to Ball State on both sides, with the men losing 152-53 and the women losing 158-47.

Bellarmine’s men had 10 swimmers produce a top four finish while the women’s team had eight swimmers turn in top four finishes in at least one race, with three swimmers on each side notching two top four finishes each.

For the men, freshman Ahmet Efe Inceoglu led the way with a pair of silver medals, coming in second in the 50 free (21.55) and the 100 free (46.22). Junior Evan Dickson tallied a silver and bronze medal, finishing second in the 200 free (1:44.48) and third in the 500 free (4:50.36). Senior Sam Jones rounds out the top performers with a second-place finish in the 1000 free (10:03.35) and a fourth-place finish in the 500 free (4:52.81).

Freshman Carter Souliere (200 IM, 1:57.01) and junior Colin Jackson (100 back, 52.93) notched a second-place finish in their respective events while freshman Yael Bojalil (200 free, 1:45.03) and junior Reece Pennington (100 fly, 52.20) tallied third place finishes. Freshman Zach May (100 breaststroke, 59.86), senior Cason Henderson (200 IM, 2:00.44) and sophomore David Diercks (100 back, 54.88) rounded out the group with a fourth-place finish in their respective events.

On the women’s side, sophomore Micaela Godfrey earned top billing with two silver medals, finishing second in the 200 IM (2:09.71) and the 100 back (59.56). Freshman Kaja Vaadal turned in a second (1000 free, 10:52.59) and third (500 free, 5:20.76) place finish while junior Lily Wolfe came in third (1000 free, 10:53.47) and fourth (500 free, 5:22.92). Three Knights in sophomores Lily Epley (50 free, 25.24), Ava Jones (100 free, 55.06) and senior Erin Dall’Agnol (100 breaststroke, 1:07.58) placed third while sophomores Clara McIntyre (200 free, 2:00.98) and Annie Leibold (100 fly, 1:01.04) came in fourth.

Up next, Bellarmine return to the A3 Performance Invitational, an event the Knights have seen a lot of success in recent years, in Carbondale, IL November 13-15.
