Both Louisville’s women’s and men’s teams took care of business at home against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, with both sides having equal scoring outputs of 213-84.

Women’s Recap

Louisville got out of the gates fast with their win in the 200 medley relay; the team of Julie Mishler (24.12), Caroline Larsen (26.68), Ella Welch (22.62), and Julia Dennis (20.98) combined for a meet-opening 1:34.30 win, just shy of the 1:34.21 they posted against Tennessee and Auburn in late October that ranks 2nd in the country.

Cardinals sophomore Leticia Fassina Romao clocked a season best 9:35.15 for a commanding win in the 1000 freestyle, 23 seconds faster than the rest of the field to earn Louisville’s first individual win of the meet.

Louisville notched the top three spots in the 200 free, led by sophomore Daria Golovaty in a season best 1:44.48. She was followed by Cardinals teammates, sophomore Caroline Larsen in a lifetime best 1:45.32, and freshman Maya Bezanson’s 1:47.48 in a 1-2-3 sweep. Both Golovaty and Larsen swam under the NCAA qualifying time.

Mishler, the Louisville freshman, earned her lone individual win of the meet in the 100 backstroke, clocking 52.65.

Louisville senior Mia Cheatwood was the only competitor in the 100 breaststroke to break a minute with her time of 59.14. She then completed the double with a win in the 200 breast, touching in 2:09.06. The day prior against Kentucky, she went 58.97/2:07.85, ranking her 12th and 5th in the NCAA this season.

Dennis, the Cardinal senior, won the first of her two individual events in the 50 free with her time of 21.47. She later won the 100 free in 47.66.

Louisville sophomore Audree Brazeau-Howes took the platform diving win, scoring 265.73. Junior Samm Helmboldt added another diving win for the Cardinals on the 1-meter, finishing with a top score of 296.70.

Sophomore Camille Murray won the 200 back for Louisville, clocking a winning time of 1:56.39, her fastest time this season thus far.

Golovaty earned another win in the 500 free; her final time of 4:43.65 was nearly two seconds ahead of teammate Benzanson in 4:45.54 (lifetime best time).

Louisville senior Welch captured the 100 fly in a winning effort of 52.02.

Cardinals grad student Kim Herkle earned the final Louisville women’s individual event win in the 400 IM, touching in 4:11.13, under the NCAA qualifying time and her fastest time this season.

Louisville wrapped up with their 400 free quartet of Caroline Larsen (47.52), Julia Dennis (47.34), Julie Mishler (48.09), and Ella Welch (48.19) combining for a winning time of 3L11.14.

Notre Dame did snag one event win on the women’s side on the day. Carli Cronk was the lone Fighting Irish woman victor, touching first in the 200 fly with a final time of 1:55.70, marking her fastest time of the season. Cronk also finished runner-up in the 400 IM in 4:12.25; both swims were under the NCAA qualifying standard.

Fighting Irish freshman Emily Hamil was a two-time runner-up in the backstroke events, clocking 53.93 in the 100 back and 1:57.07 in the 200 back.

Men’s Recap

Louisville’s men started off similar to the women, taking an early win in the 200 medley relay; Jackson Millard (21.22), Finnnley Conklin (23.73), Aiden Musso (19.97) and Nikita Sheremet (18.86) totaled 1:24.13 for the meet opening victory.

Louisville freshman Oscar Isberg kicked off the Cardinal men’s individual scoring with his winning time of 8:57.68 in the 1000 free.

Cardinals senior Guy Brooks topped the 200 free in 1:32.22, breaking the pool record that was previously held by Joau De Lucca, who swam for Louisville and is now on the Notre Dame coaching staff. Junior Matias Santiso (1:35.57) and sophomore Gregg Enoch (1:36.30) rounded out the sweep for Louisville in the 200 free.

Louisville sophomore Jacob Eccleston led the way in the 100 breast, turning in his fastest time of the season in 52.95. Similar to Chatwood on the women’s side, Eccleston doubled up with his 200 breast performance of 1:53.66, his quickest this season, and under the NCAA qualifying time.

Grad student Tommy Bried was victorious in the 200 fly, stopping the clock in a season best 1:44.20, just ahead of Louisville teammate Aidan Paro in 1:44.54.

Sheremet took the win in the 50 free with his final time of 19.28.

Sophomore Ray Preas took the top spot for the Cardinals on platform, scoring 339.14.

Brooks earned his second individual win of the meet in the 100 free in 42.29, over a full second ahead of the field, marking his fastest swim this seasonand dipping under the NCAA qualifying time.

Louisville sophomore Filip Kosinski was untouchable in the 200 back, finishing nearly four seconds faster than the field in a season best and NCAA qualifying 1:40.68.

Isberg completed the distance sweep, winning the 500 free in 4:20.01.

Aidan Paro packed onto the Louisville win total in the 100 fly, swimming a season best 46.24.

Cardinals sophomore Jackson Millard picked up an individual win in the 400 IM in 3:45.25 for a season best and NCAA qualification.

The Louisville men mirrored the women, closing with a win in the 400 free relay; the team of Sheremet (42.93), Brooks (41.81), Matias Santiso (43.06), and Rian Graham (42.82) combined for a five-second win in 2:50.62.

The Notre Dame men picked up a pair of wins in their effort against the Cardinals.

Marcus Reyes-Gentry notched the 100 back win in 46.34. Daniel Knapp also emerged victorious on the 1-meter, with his top score of 351.83.

Tommy Janton added to the point total for the Fighting Irish with his runner-up finish in the 200 back in his fastest swim of the season in 1:44.28.

I wonder how many schools have had dual meets that ended in identical scores on the men’s and women’s side. I thought ND had more firepower than this, especially on the men’s side.

I think it’s a mix of Notre dame being down and Louisville being deeper than expected
