There were new and repeat champions at the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III championships.
The new champion was the Tanque Verde boys team, which held on for a three-point win over runner-up Notre Dame Preparatory in a tight team race where just 29 points separated the top five teams.
The girls’ team competition was also close, with Phoenix Country Day defending its title, outlasting runner-up American Leadership Academy-North Gilbert by 12.5 points.

It came down to the last event, with Phoenix Country Day clinching the title with a 2nd-place finish in the 400 free relay. American Leadership Academy finished 4th in the event.
Chandler Prep’s team of Stephanie Schuler, Ingrid Hansen, Molly Hendricks and Mikayla Dunmar won the event in 3:46.88, just 11 one-hundredths ahead of Country Day’s team of Olivia Singer, Rose Glassman, Teagan Roeder and Nancy Burns.
Chandler Prep also won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:42.65 behind the team of Schuler, Hansen, Mikayla Dunmar and Hendricks.
The 200 medley relay was won by American Leadership Academy’s team of Joelle Vanderbark, Chloe Quihulz, Cecilia Quihulz and Jill Jensen in a time of 1:54.02.
Individually, American Leadership Academy junior Cecilia Quihulz, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy junior Reagan Edquid and Yuma Catholic junior Ryan Webb each won two events.
Quihulz won the 200 free (1:53.85) and 500 free (5:07.34) in personal best times, Edquid won the 200 IM (personal best 2:04.53) and 100 breast (1:03.76), and Webb captured the 100 fly (56.45) and 100 back (57.68).
Other individual winners were Country Day junior Olivia Singer in the 50 free (personal best 23.57), Country Day junior Julia Root in 1-meter diving (504.95) and Paradise Honors senior Aubrielle Stevens in the 100 free (personal best 51.17).

Boys’ Recap
Just like the girls’ competition, the team title came down to the 400 free relay, with Tanque Verde’s 5th-place finish being just enough to squeak by Notre Dame Prep, which was 3rd in the event.
Trivium Prep’s team of Al Alexandrovich, Abisai Morales, Ethan Lu and Luke Jones won the event in a time of 3:18.00.
Trivium Prep also won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.40 behind the same swimmers, but a different order of Jones, Alexandrovich, Lu and Morales.
Tanque Verde won the 200 free relay, with the team of Jackson Eftekhar, Grayson The, Wade Olsson and Zach Duerkop finishing first in a time of 1:30.45.
There were three multiple-event winners individually:, Alexandrovich, Shadow Mountain junior Kadyn Hysong and Notre Dame Prep senior Alex Minarich.
Alexandrovich captured the 200 free (1:42.23) and 100 breast (personal best 57.40), Hysong topped the field in the 50 free (personal best 21.18) and 100 fly (personal best 51.63), while Minarich won the 200 IM (personal best 1:56.77) and 100 back (51.96).
The other individual winners were Collin Evans of American Leadership Academy in 1-meter diving (415.60 points), Paradise Honors senior Austin Hargreaves in the 100 free (46.84), and Phoenix Country Day sophomore Marcus Rawner Scannapieco in the 500 free (personal best 4:50.95).
