Northern Colorado’s Rabess, UNLV’s Huey Named MPSF Swimmers of the Week

University of Northern Colorado junior Kyra Rabess (George Town, Cayman Islands) posted first-place swims in the 500 free (4:56.78) and 1000 free (9:56.05) in a home dual against Cal Baptist (Nov. 8). Her 1000 time is a new school record and currently the fastest in the MPSF by nearly nine seconds. She also split 51.8 to help the 400 free relay to a win. This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Rabess.

MPSF MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

UNLV grad student Bryson Huey (Walnut Creek, CA) swam the MPSF’s fastest 50 free (19.25, NCAA Top-20) and 100 free (43.65), while winning both races in a dual meet against BYU (Nov. 7). He also placed third in the 100 fly (48.15). Huey again won the 50 free (19.51) and was the anchor leg (42.87) of the Rebels’ first-place 400 free relay against Utah (Nov. 8). He added a time of 47.74 to place second in the 100 fly. This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Huey.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men’s swimming senior Bryson Huey has been named the MPSF Men’s Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

This marks his second MPSF Weekly award this season.

Huey, a native of Walnut Creek, California, collected three individual wins in dual meets vs. BYU and Utah. Against the Cougars, he earned two first-place finishes in the 50 free (19.25) and 100 free (43.65). Additionally, Bryson also placed third in the 100 fly (48.15) against the Cougars.

Against the Utes, Huey finished first in the 50 free (19.51) and was the anchor (42.87) of the Rebels’ 400 free relay team that placed first (2:54.97). He also swam a 47.74 to place second in the 100 fly in the meet.

UP NEXT: The UNLV men’s and women’s diving teams will head to the Golden State  for the Trojan Diving Invitational being hosted by USC from Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 20-22 at Uytengsu Aquatics Center. On the swimming side, the Scarlet & Gray returns to competition next month at the Minnesota Invitational being held from Dec. 4-6.
