We entered day five of the 2025 Russian Short Course Nationals with the day bringing another national record on the men’s side.
Racing in the final of the 800m freestyle, 20-year-old Saveliy Luzin fired off a time of 7:32.36 to take the gold.
His effort sliced well over a second off the previous Russian record of 7:33.97 he put on the books at the 2024 edition of this competition.
This evening, Ivan Morgun settled for the silver in 7:35.37, followed by Egor Babinich who reaped bronze in 7:39.26.
Splits for Luzin’s record-breaking performance are below:

Luzin’s time now inserts him into the season’s world rankings list in slot #3, sitting only behind world-leading Zalan Sarkany (HUN) who hit 7:29.50 last month and Aussie Sam Short who registered 7:31.79 at the Aussie SC Championshps.
