Lehigh Women Extend Winning Streak Over Seton Hall, Pirate Men Dominate Mountain Hawks

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J – Lehigh’s women’s swimming and diving team hit the road for the second time this season to face Seton Hall. The Mountain Hawks won their fifth meet of the season, beating the Pirates 175-68. Lehigh dominated once again, winning eleven of the thirteen events.

The competition kicked off on the diving board, where junior Kate Whitaker swept both events. She handily won the three-meter dive, gapping the field by thirty points with a score of 253.05. At the one-meter height, she won with a score of 224.62. First-year Jayden Yochai finished second in that event, scoring 207.82.

Senior Mairin Ludwig and first-year Genevieve Cody were two of the top performing Mountain Hawks, battling each other along the way. In the 200-yard freestyle, Ludwig edged out Cody for first, swimming 1:53.24. Cody finished second at 1:56.14, and first-year Sophie Perry swam 1:57.46 to place third. Cody returned the favor over 100-yards, as she narrowly beat Ludwig, swimming 52.21 to the senior’s 52.28. Lehigh swept the podium in that event, as first-year Giselle Michaels placed third (54.86). Ludwig also took the victory in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming 5:06.90

First-year Eliza Johnson was the only other Lehigh swimmer to take home two individual victories. In the 100-yard backstroke, she took the win in 58.55. Johnson also won the 200-yard individual medley, hitting the wall at 2:10.50. She was not the only Mountain Hawk to make the podium in that event, as junior Eliza Meth placed second with a time of 2:11.17. Meth also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke. That event was won by her teammate Zoe Davies, as the sophomore swam 1:06.93 to Meth’s 1:08.74.

Senior Caitlin Deitch was the final individual champion for Lehigh. She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming 57.50.

The Mountain Hawks had a handful of podium finishes over the remaining individual events. In the 1000-yard freestyle, sophomore Claire Coughlin just missed the win to place second (10:44.49), and senior Caitlin Hofmann finished third (11:03.79). In the 50-yard freestyle, Michaels (24.51) was a half-second shy of first, and Deitch was just behind her (24.71) in third.

The Mountain Hawks once again swept both relay events. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Johnosn, Davies, Deitch, and Cody took home the win in 1:45.98. With Michaels, Coughlin, Perry, and Juliana Guida teaming up, Lehigh swam 3:38.50 to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Mountain Hawks are back at home for their next competition. They face Lafayette at Jacobs Pool on Friday, November 21 for this year’s edition of The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J – Lehigh’s men’s swimming and diving team hit the road for the second time this season to face Seton Hall. The Mountain Hawks took their second loss of the season, falling 155-85 to the Pirates.

The meet started with the diving events, where graduate student Jack Grotke picked up a pair of fourth place finishes. He scored 163.27 points in the three-meter dive, and 177.45 at the one-meter height.

The Mountain Hawks picked up three wins in the competition. Lehigh took all three podium spots in the 1000-yard freestyle, led by senior Alfredo Figueroa Sedano. Figueroa Sedano hit the wall first at 9:57.81, followed by sophomore Will Pestrichelli (9:57.86) close behind in second and first-year Christian McAuley (10:08.99) in third. Senior Ben Kisker championed the 100-yard backstroke, swimming 51.28. In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Chase Bearley led the field with a time of 21.24.

Lehigh also had a handful of podium finishes in the other events. First-years Spencer Ridge and TJ Hayes each earned themselves second place finishes. Ridge narrowly missed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming 59.64. Hayes got his second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, closing in 4:44.98. He was trailed closely behind by fellow first-year Jake Greenleaf, who placed third with a time of 4:45.70. Greenleaf also secured the third spot over 200-yards freestyle swimming, hitting the wall in 1:43.76. Also finishing top three was sophomore Jared Rabadam (2nd, 51.43) and Bearley (3rd, 52.66) in the 100-yard freestyle, and first year Andrew Takach (3rd, 1:58.50) in the 200-yard individual Medley.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In the final home meet of the fall, Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving fell to Lehigh, 175-68, in Imperatore Natatorium.

Diving
Senior Amy Kugelman produced one of her best weekends this season in this bout against the Mountain Hawks. On the three-meter board, Kugelman placed second with a score of 253.05. When things shifted down to the one-meter board, she continued her strong run of form with her third-place score of 204.97.

Swimming
On a young Seton Hall roster, the star of the day was sophomore Zeynep Aysoy. The Turk continued her dominance in the 1000 freestyle, recording an event-winning time of 10:37.81. She would also narrowly collect a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.45.

Alongside Aysoy’s distance dominance, Naima Hazell continued hers in the sprint events. Hazell won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.26. Additionally, the junior finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.79.

While she didn’t win, junior Soluna Lim continued taking steps forward in her second season in South Orange. In the 100 butterfly, Lim secured a second-place finish with a time of 57.78.

The Pirates will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., tomorrow, Nov. 8, to take on the Drexel Dragons in The Hall’s final dual meet of the fall.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In the final home meet of the fall, Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving downed to Lehigh, 155-85, in Imperatore Natatorium.

Diving
After setting a new program record earlier in the season on the one-meter board, Nick Graham decided that it has been awhile since he broke a record. Graham bested his record by over 20 points on the one-meter, securing victory with a score of 361.57. He also topped the three-meter with a score of 337.80.

Aside from Graham, today also served as a showcase for freshmen Henry Summers and Mason Case. The pair finished second and third on both boards, with Summers edging out Case with scores of 244.27 and 293.55 respectively.

Swimming
Once again, The Hall’s relay teams topped the timing sheets in both relays during both sessions. This marks the fourth time this season that they have won both relays.
While he didn’t compete in the 1000 freestyle, freshman Zach McLeod turned that focus towards the 500 freestyle. Despite intense competition from Lehigh, McLeod won the 500 free by three seconds with a time of 4:41.95.

Individually, with a critical meet against Drexel tomorrow, plenty of new faces got a chance to shine. Jack Callan opened up the docket for the Pirates when he secured his second 200 freestyle victory in as many weeks, with a time of 1:43.53. Freshman Wesley Schlachter came in less than a tenth of a second behind Callan with a time of 1:43.62.

Later on in the meet, freshman Daniel Krajewski topped the timing screen in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.85. The win marks Krajewski’s third 200 IM win this season. Less than a second behind the freshman was sophomore Kale Duong, who finished with a mark of 1:55.63.

The final standout freshman, Jaeger Ellerman, capped off a strong day for the Pirates’ youth movement by winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.95.

Amid all the options, the most compelling race of the day for the Pirates may have been 100 freestyle. In what is becoming a common occurrence, Michael Klimaszewski topped the timing sheets over junior Toma Adam by 0.26 seconds with a time of 45.52. Behind the pair, however, arose Balint Marosi. Marosi came in third against the field with a time of 46.87.

Jake Karulf was the final remaining event winner from today’s bout with the Mountain Hawks. The sophomore shifted down the 100 butterfly, securing a one-second victory with a time of 50.18.

The Pirates will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., tomorrow, Nov. 8, to take on the Drexel Dragons in The Hall’s final dual meet of the fall.
