Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
“Best of the Rest” ranked butterflyer Boone Wilcox has verbally committed to the University of Michigan for the class of 2027
“I am honored to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Michigan. Thank you so much to Coach Matt and Coach Gunnar and the entire Michigan coaching staff for giving me this tremendous opportunity. Thank you to all of the Lakeside coaches, especially Coach Mike and Coach Mimi, for making me the swimmer I am today. Finally, thank you to my family, friends, and teammates who have supported me through this process. Go BLUE!〽️”
Wilcox is a member of the USA Swimming National Junior Team in the men’s 200 butterfly with his long course time of 1:59.24 from the NCSA Summer Swimming Championships. He is from Louisville Kentucky, where he swims for Lakeside Swim Team and is a junior at Saint Xavier High School.
In our “Way Too Early Class of 2027 Recruit Rankings” Wilcox earned a “Best of the Rest” designation for his butterfly skills.
At the USA Swimming Nationals in June, Wilcox finished 42nd in the 50 fly (25.29), 27th in the 100 fly finals (54.37), and 27th in the 200 fly (2:00.76). He lowered his 100 fly time further at the NCSA Championships, dropping under 2:00 for the first time to swim 1:59.24 and win the event.
At last year’s KHSAA State Championships in February, Wilcox finished 9th in the 50 free (21.51), and 2nd in the 100 fly (48.98). Later that month, he swam at the Speedo Southern Premier meet, qualifying for the finals and setting new personal best times in the 100 free (14th- 46.78), 200 free (20th- 1:41.05), 100 back (18th- 50.68), 200 back (12th- 1:48.87), and 200 fly (1:47.44).
Wilcox’s Personal Best Times SCY
- 200 free- 1:41.03
- 100 fly- 48.78
- 200 fly- 1:47.44
- 200 back- 1:48.87
The Michigan men finished 2nd at last year’s Big Ten Championships, coming in a little more than 400 points behind Indiana at 1148 to IU’s 1579.
Wilcox currently sits outside of scoring position in his top two events, the 100 fly (47.12) and 200 fly (1:44.29), but he made major improvements during last long course season. His 200 fly time from the NCSA Championships converts to 1:45.61, which puts him far closer to that scoring position, and he still has two more years to improve before he will arrive on campus in the fall of 2027.
Michigan has had a lot of success developing butterflyers recently. Last year, current senior Tyler Ray dropped nearly a second in the event to go from 44.74 to 44.00 and finish 7th overall at the 2025 NCAA Championships. He came into college at 47.39 as a senior in high school. His junior year, which is where Wilcox is right now, he swam 49.23 at the Michigan High School State Championships.
He joins #16 Anthony Dornoff, fellow BOTR recruit Allen Gyang, Ben Luginski, and Charles Howard in the recruiting class.
