For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Cincinnati Marlins’ Nash King has verbally committed to the University of Alabama as a part of the 2027 recruiting class for the Crimson Tide men.
I am beyond honored and thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama! I would like to thank God for guiding me and leading me throughout this process. A special thank you to my friends and family, as-well as the entire Cincinnati Marlins coaching staff for helping me along this journey. I would also like to thank Coach Margo, Coach Andy, and the entire University of Alabama coaching staff for blessing me with this opportunity. ROLL TIDE 🐘🔴⚪️
King wrapped up his summer campaign with a stellar showing at the Speedo Junior National Championships (LCM), setting five lifetime bests. He notched best times in both the 200 IM (2:05.97) and 400 IM (4:28.75), finishing 18th and 20th in those events, respectively. He lowered his best time in the 200 breaststroke to 2:24.04, and also clocked his fastest time leading off a pair of relays; he clocked 1:55.75 in the 200 freestyle leading off the 800 free relay, and set a best 50 backstroke time leading off the 200 medley relay in 27.73.
King hails from Batesville, Ind., and represents Oldenburg Academy. As a high school sophomore, King swam a pair of top 10 performances at the Indiana High School State Championships. His top swim came in the 500 free, where he finished 6th in 4:29.93, his fastest performance of his career. He also clocked 1:50.47 in the 200 IM, finishing 9th; that time marked his fastest swim until he clocked 1:49.66 at the ISCA International Senior Cup in August.
He also holds a number of other impressive middle-distance bests; including the 200 butterfly in 1:48.33 that he set at the March edition of the OH MAKO Senior Meet. His 400 IM best sits at 3:54.13 from the ISCA International Senior Cup in March. King also boasts a 1650 free time of 16:06.41 from the March ISCA International Senior Cup.
Best Times SCY:
- 200 IM: 1:49.66
- 400 IM: 3:54.13
- 200 Fly: 1:48.33
- 500 Free: 4:29.93
- 1650 Free: 16:06.41
The Alabama men finished 6th at the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.
Based on King’s best times, he would have finished 45th in the 500 free, 31st in the 400 IM, and 37th in the 200 fly at those championships.
King has plenty of options to play with when it comes to his event lineups.
His progression is on a positive trajectory; in the span of a year, King lowered his 200 fly from 1:53.30 to his current best of 1:48.33. Hypothetically, if he were to lower it by two seconds each of the next two seasons (prior to his NCAA debut), he would be sitting at the cusp of scoring at SECs (24th place was 1:44.30).
The same goes for his 400 IM. In March of 2024, his best sat at 4:04.75, and 364 days later, he clocked 3:54.13, which remains his current PB. As a junior in high school, there is still plenty of time for him to continue to climb the ranks in the SEC.
King joins Aadin Terrazas in Alabama’s 2027 recruiting class.
