The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team earned two dual meet wins on Friday evening. The Blue Devils defeated NEC foe Wagner 140-120, and host Southern Connecticut State, 179-109.

The Blue Devils captured the top spot in seven events, with Sophie Milhomens and Jewelle Maziarz winning twice each on the evening.

CCSU is back in action next Saturday, November 8th when they take on Binghamton in a meet hosted at NJIT. The Blue Devils will host Friday Night Sprints on November 14th at 5:00 pm

RELAY

FREESTYLE

  • Izzy Vega took the top spot in the 1000 freestyle, pulling away over the final laps of the race to win by more than eight seconds in a time of 10:57.06
  • Dunningan took the second spot in the 200-freestyle, 1:57.02, as the Blue Devils went 2-3-4 with Addison Kenney (1:57.69 and Grace M. Young (1:59.35)
  • Katrine O’Leary won the 50-freestyle by .05 seconds, in a time of 24.55, while Lauryn Cowing took fourth at 24.74
  • The Blue Devils went 3-4-5 in the 100-freestyle, with Grace M. Young (53.95), O’Leary (54.43) and Gabby Spaciano (55.19)
  • Maggie Rutledge (5:10.07), Spaciano (5:20.84) and Vega (5:23.96) placed 2-3-4 in the 500-freestyle

STROKES

  • Sophie Milhomens won the 100-backstroke, going 57.94, while Fusco was third at 1:00.85
  • Grace Young was the second-place finisher in the 100-breaststroke with a swim of 1:07.20
  • Loretta Santora was the Blue Devils top 200 butterfly finisher, touching at 2:15.98
  • Milhomens picked up her second win of the night with a 2:04.72 200-backstroke effort, with teammate Addison Kenney second at 2:07.59
  • Young won the 200-breaststroke for the Blue Devils at 2:27.02, as she took the lead on the final 50 of the race
  • Kenney was the second-place finisher in the 100-butterfly, with a time of 59.51, while Fusco took third at 1:00.76
  • Dunnigan placed second in the 200 IM with a swim of 2:10.90, as her last 50 closing effort fell .01 short of the win

DIVING

  • Jewelle Maziarz scored the highest total on the 1-meter board, with 236.25 points, with Kaitlyn Carroll next at 224.65
  • Maziarz was the top scorer on the 3-meter board as well, at 232.35, while Carroll scored 229.80

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The swimming & diving teams both defeated Southern Connecticut at the Hutchison Natatorium to earn their first meet wins of the season on Friday. The men’s team beat SCSU 220-74, while the women’s team won 156-132. The women’s team additionally dropped their match against CCSU in the same meet, 120-140.

The women’s team picked up eight event wins throughout the night. Sophomore Mia Goodale, who won NEC Swimmer of the Week two weeks prior, picked up where she left off by winning the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Goodale also joined sophomores Gaya Savran and Lovisa Ramsten, and senior Lia Vendel in winning the 200-yard medley relay.

Savran also continued her success during the season by winning both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly.

The men’s team won 14 of the 16 events against SCSU, including both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Florian Schumich won the 1000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard individual medley. Schumich also won the 200-yard medley relay with juniors Senan Noonan and Manuel Chavez Villalpando, and senior Joel Knaapi.

Villalpando and Schumich, along with Noonan, sophomore Ben McLaughlin, and senior Nikko Carrillo each won multiple events on Friday.

The Seahawks return to the pool on Saturday, November 8, as they will take on LIU at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.

NEW HAVEN, CONN.- SCSU Women’s Swimming and Diving fell to Central Connecticut State University and Wagner College in their first home meet of the 2025-26 season on Friday Oct. 31.

1 Meter Diving:
Lakshmi Garofalo won the event with a score of 142.65. In second, was Lexi Dominguez scoring 134.90.

200 Yard Medley Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut relay team of Abby Lyons, Allyson Quitos, Julia Pitchell and Jilian Pitchell placed fourth with a time of 1:52.85. In sixth was another Southern Connecticut relay team of Sara Roney, Ellyn Baker, Garofalo and Emily Denise finishing in 1:55.67.

1000 Yard Freestyle: 
Sierra DuCharme placed second with a time of 11:05.84. Kali Dominguez placed fourth at 11:10.35.

200 Yard Freestyle: 
Jasmine Uricchio placed fifth at 2:02.33. Following her in sixth, was Aralyn Vogel at 2:04.73.

100 Yard Backstroke: 
Roney placed fourth with a time of 1:03.87. Following her in sixth, was Zoe McNeill at 1:05.15.

100 Yard Breaststroke: 
Quitos placed third with a time of 1:09.36. Baker placed fifth at 1:09.58.

200 Yard Butterfly: 
Julia Pitchell placed second at 2:14.89. Following her in third, was Paola Castillo at 2:15.98.

50 Yard Freestyle: 
Molly Kennedy placed third with a time of 24.61. Reina Loiacano placed eighth at 25.94.

3 Meter Diving: 
Garofalo won the event scoring 120.05 points. Following her in second, was Lexi Dominguez with 106.90 points.

100 Yard Freestyle: 
Kennedy placed second with a time of 53.21. Loiacano placed seventh at 56.44.

200 Yard Backstroke: 
Abby Lyons placed third with a time 2:12.17. Julia Pitchell placed seventh at 2:18.18.

200 Yard Breaststroke: 
Baker placed fourth at 2:29.53. Following her in fifth, was Emma St. Hillaire at 2:32.49.

500 Yard Freestyle: 
Castillo placed fifth with a time of 5:25.52. Following her in sixth was Uricchio at 5:26.11.

100 Yard Butterfly: 
Kali Dominguez placed sixth with a time of 1:02.62. Roney placed eighth at 1:04.11

200 Yard IM: 
Lyons placed third with a time of 2:15.82. St Hillaire placed sixth at 2:19.44.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut relay team of Jilian Pitchell, Kennedy, Vogel and Loiacano placed third at 1:41.47. Another Southern Connecticut team of Castillo, Uricchio, Denise and Kali Dominguez placed fifth at 1:46.11.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Friday Nov. 7 when they travel to Central Connecticut State University for their Friday Night Sprints meet starting at 5 PM.

Elliot Speckhard won the event with a score of 219.85. Taking second, was Cole Mullarkey with 174.85 points.

200 yard Medley Relay: 
A Southern Connecticut relay team of Kris JanneyNicholas FournierJacob Tanner and Daniel Lazar placed fourth in 1:40.87. Following them in fifth was a team of Samuel WhitakerKorbin ConliffeKenny Lagamao and Jack Simmons at 1:46.17.

1000 Yard Freestyle: 
Richie Hall placed fourth with a time of 10:25.85. Following him was Alex Ahrens in fifth at 10:33.68.

200 yard Freestyle: 
Dylan Prescher placed third at 1:47.35. Following him was Fry in fifth at 1:50.50

100 yard Backstroke: 
Mason Durant placed fourth with a time of 56.03. In fifth was Lazar at 57.24.

100 yard Breaststroke: 
Janney placed fifth at 1:04.96. Following him was Bailey in sixth at 1:05.47.

200 yard Butterfly: 
Lucas Quiroga placed fourth at 2:02.48. Following him was Aiden Kennedy in fifth at 2:03.43.

50 yard Freestyle:
Ben Frazer placed third at 22.10. Following him was Travis Scott in fifth at 22.41.

1 Meter Diving: 
Speckhard won the event scoring 224.65. In second, was Mullarkey at 216.65.

Men 100 yard Freestyle: 
Frazer placed third at 48.35. Following him was Fry in fourth at 49.64.

Men 200 yard Backstroke: 
Janney placed fourth with a time of 2:02.54. Following him was Bailey in fifth at 2:03.21.

Men 200 yard Breaststroke: 
Zachary Krantz placed fourth at 2:25.27. Following him in sixth, was Simmons at 2:28.92.

Men 500 yard Freestyle: 
Prescher placed third at 4:54.74. Finishing fifth was Souidi at 5:08.42.

Men 100 yard butterfly: 
Lazar placed third at 54.31. Quiroga finished in fifth at 57.18.

Men 200 yard IM: 
Hall placed third with a time of 2:06.20. Following him in fourth was Samuel Whittaker at 2:06.97.

Men 200 yard Freestyle: 
A Southern Connecticut Relay team of Prescher, Simmons, Quiroga and Souidi placed second at 1:28.03. Following them in third, was a team of Fry, Frazer, Scott and Lazar at 1:29.06.

Southern Connecticut is back in action on Friday Nov. 14 when they travel to Worcester to take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) starting at 6 PM.
