UNI’s Charlotte Sander Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS —UNI swimming and diving’s Charlotte Sander has been named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Freshman of the Week, as announced by league officials on Tuesday morning. The selection marks the first weekly conference honor of her career.

Sander put together a stellar performance this past weekend at the Coyote Extravaganza in Vermillion, South Dakota that saw her take the top prize in the 50-yard freestyle on both days of the meet, swimming a 23.94 on the first day and a 23.88 the second day, shaving off six hundredths of a second from her previous time from Friday.

Other notable performances from Sander this past weekend include a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (53.33) and a first-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Sander, Abby LearMorgan Raether and Morgan Meyer swimming a winning time of 1:34.98.

Additional MVC women’s swimming and diving honorees this week included swimmer of the week Lana Janson (Missouri State) and diver of the week Kerry-Leigh Morrison (UIC).

Sander and the Panthers return to action Nov. 18-21 as UNI travels to Iowa City to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational. Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT with prelims and 6 p.m. CT with finals each day.
