The 2025 Hungarian Short Course Championships kick off tomorrow, Wednesday, November 5th, in Debrecen. Most of the nation’s top athletes will be vying not only for medals but also for the chance to represent Hungary at the Short Course European Championships this December.

Although the American-based athletes, to the tune of Hubi Kos and Zalan Sarkany are expected to stay stateside, entries include the likes of Nandor Nemeth, Adam Jaszo, Richard Marton, Szebasztian Szabo, Gabor Zombori, Panna Ugrai and Viktoria Mihalyvari-Farkas.

Among those missing from the entries are world record holder Kristof Milak and 17-year-old European Championships medalist Vivien Jackl.

Olympic champion Milak withdrew from this year’s World Championships and hasn’t appeared to have raced since April’s National Championships. According to the Hungarian Swimming Federation, Milak has only been training on land as of late.

As for teenager Jackl, the Shane Tusup-trained versatile athlete raced at this year’s European Junior Championships and World Junior Championships. At the latter, she captured bronze in both the girls’ 1500m freestyle and 400m IM races.

Of note, 24-year-old European Championships medalist Ajna Kesely is set to return to racing this week after having missed most of the summer due to injury.

Veteran David Verraszto is also set to compete, entered in five events.

I really REALLY wanted to see a 1’49 200m fly. I guess i’ll have to wait for the next generational talent

Oh yeah.

Really hope LĂ©on will do a 200 fly in Austin in December (to know what time he could achieve now cos he’ll be tapered I think) but I don’t expect much.

Or maybe next year.

You have accomplished everything in swimming. You don’t seem to enjoy swimmingly anymore.

Just retire already with dignity, like what Titmus did.

You can always come back to swimming, like what Phelps did.

Agree this is the best thing for him to do.
I like that Titmus doesn’t hesitate to make the decision to retire when she doesn’t feel like it anymore.

I was kinda surprised to learn Dressel didn’t have his bachelors from UF, but I think for both of them, swimming is a higher priority and I wouldn’t be surprised if Kos was taking something like the minimum number of credits per semester needed to compete

Ohi thought the big thing in the USA was getting that degree whilst swimming in college. So the hype is not real?

Yeah that threw me for a loop too… It’s been 7 years, surprised he hasn’t tried to tackle it. That seems liek the type of thing he’d get after.

A few days ago, Hubi said in an interview that he had suspended his university studies until January.

Thanks for the info. Main reason I’m wondering is his degree name sounds really cool

Meanwhile some swimmers I know are struggling to afford to rent, eat, study and train.

I don’t want to hear a peep about football or basketball players only being part time students. These swimmers are hired guns like the other athletes
