Divers from Canada and Germany will join the Australian, French, Dutch and American athletes in training in Mission Viejo in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Last month, SwimSwam reported that divers from Australia and France had signed on to use Mission Viejo as their training base prior to the 2028 Games, joining the Netherlands, which recently signed a multi-year agreement with the city, and the hometown Americans.
Now, the Canadian and German teams have also been confirmed to be working there in 2028. In a press release, the Mission Viejo Nadadores also said that some of the teams will host training camps at the Mission Viejo Swim Center in 2026 and 2027.
“We are so excited to essentially be a significant training hub in the world,” said Mission Viejo Mayor Robert Ruesch. “We cannot wait to have the German, Canadian, Dutch, Aussie, French and American athletes call Mission Viejo their home away from home in 2028.”
Canadian Senior Director of Performance Andrée Pouliot-Deschamps said Mission Viejo is the ideal location for their team’s pre-Olympic training.
“We selected Mission Viejo for our pre-Olympic training camp because its world-class facilities offer the ideal environment for our athletes, coaches, and staff to focus, train, and build momentum toward the Games,” she said. “Having visited before, we were impressed by the warm welcome and exceptional hospitality. Mission Viejo provides the perfect setting to prepare our team for success at Los Angeles 2028.”
Christoph Bohm, the German National Head Diving Coach, said: “We have found our dream training facility to optimally prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games,” he said. “We are particularly pleased that we will be able to prepare together with other major diving nations such as Australia and, above all, the United States.”
Mission Viejo’s swim center is an outdoor facility and is roughly 70 miles from Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, the confirmed location for the diving competition at the 2028 LA Olympics. Diving had previously been scheduled to take place at Exposition Park, the same location as diving at the 1932 Olympic Games.
The diving competition at the 2028 Games is scheduled to run from July 16 through the 22nd, and then after a two-day break, resume from the 25th until the 28th.
