Mission Viejo will serve as a training center for divers from France and Australia with the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The groups join the Netherlands and Team USA as divers already announced to be conducting their training in Mission Viejo.
“One of the best investments our City made decades ago was building a world-class diving facility,” said Mission Viejo Mayor Robert Ruesch. “We are so excited to have Dutch, Aussie, French and American divers call Mission Viejo their home away from home in 2028.”
Mission Viejo is home to an outdoor pool and is roughly 70 miles from Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, the new announced location for the diving competition at the 2028 LA Olympics. Diving had previously been scheduled to take place at Exposition Park, the same location of diving at the 1932 Olympic Games.
The proposed move at the end of August 2025 was approved unanimously just two weeks ago. Diving is scheduled to run July 16-22nd and July 25-28th, 2028.
In addition to Mission Viejo serving as a training location in 2028, the announcement also said that “several of the teams” will have training camps in 2026 and 2027 as well. Australia is among the teams that will have a camp in 2026.
“Mission Viejo has world-class facilities providing the perfect environment for our Australian divers to simulate to the LA28 outdoor diving venue prior to the main event and we are already planning our first training camp for 2026 to commence the preparations,” Adrian Hinchliffe, Head Coach & Program Director of Diving Australia, said.

I took a Google earth view of the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and do not see how adequate spectator seating can be accomplished with the existing facilities. Does anyone have more info? At present diving spectator seating is Zero, with no area to place temporary seating without taking down buildings on one side and there is a second pool on the other side next to the diving pool.
You put the temporary seating over the rest of the pool where the boards are and over the other pool.
