FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 17, 2026) — The 2026 AAU National Championships continued Friday at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center at the International Swimming Hall of Fame, where 16 events crowned 18 national champions on the second day of competition. The event is held in partnership with Visit Lauderdale, which has helped welcome divers, coaches, and families from across the country to Greater Fort Lauderdale for the week.
A brief round of weather moved through the area during Friday’s sessions, prompting a short pause in competition. Meet officials and venue staff worked quickly to clear the pool deck and resume diving with minimal disruption to the schedule, and athletes across all age divisions and skill levels went on to turn in strong performances throughout the day.
With entries spanning Masters, age-group, and synchronized diving divisions, organizers say Friday’s competition reinforced what has become a defining storyline of the week: the scale of this year’s championships. Between the depth of the entry list and the number of clubs represented on deck, AAU officials believe this year’s event to be the largest diving meet in history.
“You can feel the scale of this meet the moment you walk onto the deck. This is, without question, the largest and best-organized diving championships I’ve seen in my career. Moments like this are exactly why AAU Nationals matters so much — it gives every diver, from the youngest age-group athlete to our Masters competitors, a stage worthy of their hard work.”
