St. Thomas Bobcats Sweep First Annual Florida Tech Invitational

Melbourne, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams continued their 2025-26 ‘Relentless’ campaign at the 1st Annual Florida Institute of Technology Classic, winning on both the men’s and women’s side. The Bobcats were joined in the water by host Florida Institute of Technology and Barry University from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II as well as National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) powerhouse Indian River State College. The meet was swum in an invitational format, with the top 16 in each event scoring points for their team.

Women’s Standings
1st – St. Thomas (804 pts.)
2nd – Indian River (753 pts.)
3rd – Florida Tech (744 pts.)
4th – Barry (132 pts.)

Men’s Standings
1st – St. Thomas (823.5 pts.)
2nd – Florida Tech (794.5 pts.)
3rd – Indian River (720.5 pts.)
4th – Barry (294.5 pts.)

Standout Performances
– Alessia Claassen won 2 events on the day (200 IM, 100 IM), scoring 57 points for the women’s team. She also broke her own program record in the 100-yard IM (59.08).

– Katherine Gorno was the other event winner of the day, winning the women’s 50-yard freestyle with a season-best 24.34.

– Samuel Yepes and Mert Basaran led the way for the men with 44 points scored each.

– Yepes swam a personal-best 2:04.35 in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing second overall.

On Deck
The Bobcats host Ave Maria, College of the Florida Keys and New College of Florida for a Small College Quad for their home season opener on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Miami-Dade North Aquatic Center.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech men’s and women’s swimming teams notched seven NCAA B-cut times and three program records on Friday, Oct. 24.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

  • Abby Briggs set an NCAA B-cut time of 5:03.29 in the 500 Free. Briggs went on to win the event as second place swam a time of 5:04.04.
  • Efe Ongoren was the second Panther to earn a B-cut time as he placed second in the 500 Free with an NCAA qualifying time of 4:31.57. Ongoren would notch a second B-cut time of 1:38.60 in the 200 Free.
  • Akos Hajagos had a big day for Florida Tech as he won the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.95. Hajagos also set a B-cut in the 200 Fly and win the event with a time of 1:48.91.
  • Antoni Fronczak hit an NCAA qualifying time of 1:39.11 in the 200 Free. He finished second behind Ongoren. Fronczak would win the 100 Free with a time of 45.61.
  • In the 100 Fly, Miranda Olhasso set a new Florida Tech program record with a time of 56.06. Olhasso would continue her big day for Tech on the women’s side as she B-cut in the 100 Free with a time of 51.77.
  • In the women’s 200 Back, Melissa Zucco set a program record and an NCAA B-cut time of 2:02.65 as she went on to win the event.
  • The women’s 400 Free Relay team set a program record with a time of 3:26.66. This was swam by Miranda OlhassoAbby BriggsDakota Scott and Isabella Sarvis.
  • The men’s 400 Free Relay team won the event with a time of 3:00.62. This was swam by the tandem of Antoni FronczakEfe OngorenLucas Mitchelmore and Akos Hajagos.

The Panthers will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 as they swim in their annual alumni meet.
