Mona McSharry set yet another Irish record on the World Cup tour, shaving 0.08 seconds from her 100 breast mark tonight to take silver behind Kate Douglass, who won the Triple Crown in the event.

McSharry was out with Douglass, turning just 0.22 seconds behind at the halfway point, less than six tenths slower than her individual 50 breast PB. She couldn’t quite match the Virginia swimmer’s pace on the final 50, but did have the second-fastest closing split in the field to comfortably take silver.

She was out slightly slower than in her previous record, set in a bronze-medal-winning performance at the Short Course World Championships back in 2021, but was two-tenths faster coming home to dip under her Irish standard.

This was the third Irish Record of the day, after Lottie Cullen‘s 100 back record of 57.31 this morning and Ellen Walshe‘s 4:22.97 in the 400 IM, where she took the win. Both Walshe and McSharry also set new standards yesterday , Walshe in the 200 fly (2:02.36) and McSharry in the 200 breast (2:18.27).

McSharry has now set five Irish Records at the World Cup so far this year, as has Walshe.

Neither is on course for a Triple Crown, as Eneli Jefimova took the win at Stop 1 and Gaspard did so at Stop 2.
