Lucas Henveaux Breaks 10-Year-Old Belgian National Record in the 400 IM in 4:08.56

2025 WORLD AQUATICS SWIMMING WORLD CUP – Westmont

The third day of racing at the Westmont leg of the Swimming World Cup tour kicked off with a bang this morning, as Belgium’s Lucas Henveaux broke a 10-year-old national record in the men’s 400 IM.

Henveaux posted a time of 4:08.56, smashing the Belgian record and knocking almost two seconds off the standard. The previous record was set by Lander Hendrickx back 2015 with a time of 4:10.28, meaning Heanveaux’s performance this morning also made him the first Belgian male swimmer to go under the 4:10 barrier.

While the fastest heat will race in the finals session tonight, Henveaux snagged the runner-up spot coming out of the morning’s heats. He had the fastest opening 100 in field, taking it out quick in 55.42, with the next fastest fly split being a time of 56.22 posted by Kryzsztof Chmielewski, who took 4th overall.

Henveaux’s time on the fly leg was three-and-a-half seconds faster than Hendrickx’s opening split back in 2015, giving him a strong edge over the Belgian record pace.
