Gretchen Walsh on 50 Fly WR: “There’s a lot of thought that goes into a swim like that”

2025 SWIMMING WORLD CUP – CARMEL

Gretchen Walsh showed out at the first World Cup stop in Carmel, going 3-for-3 in her individual events and breaking a World Record in one, the 50 fly. Touching in 23.72, she took over .2 off of her old mark from last year and finished .9 ahead of 2nd place. Walsh said she dissects these races thoroughly, counting strokes and kicks and meticulously trying to figure out what the best combination of the two is.
