Ohio State Picks Up In State Recruit Paige Burkey for Class of 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ohio native Paige Burkey has verbally committed to remain in state and swim for Ohio State University beginning in the fall of 2027.

I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at The Ohio State University! Firstly, I would like to thank God, because none of this would be possible without Him. I would also like to thank my parents, teammates, and GTAC Coaches Brent, Keri, and Liam for always supporting me. Finally, thank you Coach Bill, Coach Ignacio, and the rest of the @ohiostswimdive coaching staff for this amazing opportunity. GO BUCKS! 🅾️🌰 #commited #gobucks

Burkey is from Perrysburg, Ohio, where she swims for the Greater Toledo Aquatic Club.

In July, she competed at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Madison, where she qualified for the ‘A’ final in the 100 fly, ultimately placing 7th in 1:02.16, just off her prelims best time of 1:01.96.

She also qualified for the final in the 200 back (2:18.97 — 25th), 100 back (1:04.41 — 14th), 200 free (2:04.84 — 18th), and the 100 free (58.36 — 28th).

She set four new short course personal best times at the Ohio Mako Senior Meet at the end of February. There she swam 51.88 in the 100 free prelims to qualify 4th for the final where she finished 6th. She also made the ‘A’ final in the 200 free where she swam 1:50.88 to finish 3rd and in the 100 back, where she swam 56.33 in prelims. Finally, she went a new personal best in the 100 fly prelims of 56.22, which qualified her for the ‘B’ final in 10th.

Best SCY Times:

  • 100 free- 51.88
  • 200 free- 1:50.88
  • 100 back- 56.33
  • 100 fly- 56.22

Ohio State competes in the Big Ten, where their women’s team won the conference championships in 2025, coming in about 80 points ahead of 2nd place team Indiana.

Burkey isn’t currently a conference scorer, but she saw massive improvements in long course, dropping seven seconds in the 200 free,  three seconds in her 100 free, three seconds in her 100 fly, and two-and-a-half seconds in the 100 back.

If she sees those kinds of drops this short course season, she will be a serious threat on the Ohio State roster. With her current short course best times, she would have been 15th in the 100 free, 13th in the 200 free, 10th in the 100 back, and 10th in the 100 fly.
