The women’s 50 breaststroke final at the 2025 World Championships in Singapore mirrored last year’s podium from Doha 2024. Once again, it was Lithuanian star Ruta Meilutyte who stood atop the podium, clocking a winning time of 29.55. Meilutyte continues to prove she’s the swimmer to beat in this event, delivering yet another commanding performance.
Pilato touched in 30.14, adding another impressive chapter to her career, one that began on the world stage at just 14 years old at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.
With this result, Pilato has now won a medal in the 50 breast at five consecutive World Championships. This marks a remarkable run of consistency in one of the sport’s most unpredictable sprint events. It’s worth noting that while the World Championships were not held in 2021 due to the pandemic, the addition of the extra Doha edition in 2024 has kept the total number of meets over the past seven years in line with the standard championship cycle.
Still only 20 years old, Pilato is proving to be one of the most consistent performers in the 50 breaststroke, an event set to join the Olympic program starting in Los Angeles 2028.
Benedetta Pilato’s World Championship medals in the 50 breaststroke:
- Silver – Gwangju 2019
- Silver – Budapest 2022
- Bronze – Fukuoka 2023
- Bronze – Doha 2024
- Bronze – Singapore 2025

Wow she’s only 20, feels like she’s been around forever
Death, taxes, and Ruta winning 50 breast.
Just like Ledecky she won gold in 2012 London and 2025 Singapore.
Damn, exact same podium as 2024.
Ruta won all of them except 2019, which was King.
