Cetus Breaks Finnish Record in 4 x 100 Medley Relay on the Final Day of National Championships

On the final day of the Finnish National Championships Sami Juopperi, Lassi Ohtonen, Riku Poytakivi and Ari-Pekka Liukkonen combined to break the Finnish national record in the 4 x 100 medley relay, a mark that was set in 2009. The four men, who represent Cetus, narrowly beat out Swim Miehet for the victory posting a time of 3:48.17, beating the 2009 record of 3:48.67. Swim Miehet was also under the old record finishing in a time of 3:48.64.

Their record was not the only one set on the evening, Sam Korpi broke the Finnish junior record in the 50 freestyle posting a 23.84, qualifying him for the European Junior Championships.

There were several swimmers who had a strong competition.

Jenna Laukkanen had a strong weekend winning both the 100 (1:09.75) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.20) qualifying for the European Championships in both events. Noora Laukkaen also qualified in two events for Berlin winning the 400 IM in a time of 4:56.19 and finishing second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:31.51.

Mimosa Jallow won both the 50 (29.18) and 100 backstroke (1:02.56) qualifying for the European Championships in both events.

Hanna-Maria Seppala took the 50 (25.85), 100 (56.28) and 200 freestyle events (2:03.18) while Sergei Haukka swept the backstroke events winning the 50 in a time of 26.78, the 100 in a time of 57.80 and the 200 in a time of 2:05.50.

Other swimmers qualifying for the European Championships included Silja Kansakoski (100 breaststroke), Veera Kivirinta (50 breaststroke) and Anna Makinen (50 breaststroke).

Although World Championship bronze medalist Matti Mattsson was not tapered for the event he had surprisingly sub-par performances finishing second in the 200 breaststroke posting a 2:18.23 and not even qualifying for the 100 breaststroke final recording a 1:05.26 in the semi-finals.
