Day 2 of the 2025 Summer Sectional in San Diego saw Gold Medal Swim Club 17-year-old Ellie Kayser win the women’s 200 free in 2:02.89. A Wisconsin recruit for 2026, Kayser’s performance last night was massive. She entered the day with a career best of 2:06.55, which she swam last month, then dropped a 2:06.02 in prelims before blowing that mark away in finals. 14-year-old Gabi Brito (Beach Cities Swimming) also had a great swim, taking 2nd in 2:03.22. That was a big new personal best for Britto as well, since she entered the day with a PB of 2:05.73, then went 2:04.00 in prelims before swimming her 2:03.22 in finals.
Utah’s Nick Chirafisi won the men’s 200 free by over a second last night, swimming a 1:51.27. Chirafisi entered the meet with a career best of 1:53.55, which he blew away in prelims with a 1:51.19, then took another 1.15 seconds off in finals. Las Vegas Swim Club 18-year-old Max Carlsen had a big swim for 2nd, stopping the clock in 1:51.27. Carlsen, a rising freshman at NC State this fall, came into the meet with a personal best of 1:52.66.
Canyons Aquatic Club 15-year-old Emma Hussein had a monster swim in the women’s 400 IM, posting a 4:50.00. That performance took m0re than 2 seconds off her previous best of 4:52.40, which she had just set at US Nationals last month. She was extremely strong in the middle of the race, splitting 1:15.78 on backstroke and 1:20.85 on breaststroke. Brea Aquatics 14-year-old Adalyn Lee was excellent as well, taking 2nd in 4:52.17. Lee was just off her personal best of 4:51.62, which she swam back in May.
Utah’s Brandon Miller won the men’s 400 IM in 4:31.11. He won the race by 5 seconds, but that swim was well off Miller’s personal best of 4:21.36.
Pacific Swim 17-year-old Catherine Row, a 2026 TCU recruit, won the women’s 100 back in 1:03.03 last night. She clipped her previous best time of 1:03.14 with the swim.
Utah’s Winston Sundeen won the men’s 100 back by 0.01 seconds over Skyline Swim Club 18-year-old Nash Hale, swimming a 56.97 to Hale’s 56.98. Funnily enough, Hale is a rising freshman at Utah this fall, so the duo will be teammates in about a month’s time. Hale was out a hair faster than Sundeen, splitting 27.20 on the opening 50 to Sundeen’s 27.34. Sundeen then edged out Hale on the 2nd 50 and grabbed the win. For Sundeen, the swim marks a new personal best and his first time under 57 seconds in the event. For Hale, prior to yesterday morning he hadn’t been under 58 seconds in the 100 back.
