Italy Makes A Medal Table Move On Day Two Of 2025 World University Games

Day two of the 2025 World University Games saw the United States retain its position atop the overall swimming medal table.

Today the U.S. saw Leah Hayes and Teagan O’Dell capture a 1-2 finish in the women’s 400m IM while Ben Delmar bagged bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke.

Leah Shackley ended the session with a WUGs Record en route to gold in the women’s 200m back for the stars n’ stripes.

Italy surged ahead of the ‘Individual Neutral Athletes’ to rank 2nd early on in this competition among a total of 13 countries that have each earned at least one piece of hardware thus far.

The nation was boosted by a gold and bronze in the men’s 50m butterfly, courtesy of Simone Stefani and Lorenzo GarganiTeammate Viola Scotto Di Carlo secured women’s 50m fly bronze for Italy as well.

While South Africa is still seeking its first WUGs medal, Olympian Pieter Coetze is on the cusp, having fired off a new African and competition record of 52.18 en route to claiming the top seed in the men’s 100m backstroke.
