2025 World Championships

France’s Leon Marchand is set for some of the most daunting days of racing among all competitors in Singapore. Looking to match his four golds from Paris last summer, Marchand will be tested with rigorous multi-race sessions throughout these championships.

Marchand’s event lineup and when to watch:

Date Event Round SGT (Singapore Time) EST (US Eastern Time)
CEST (Paris Time)

Tue, July 29 200 Butterfly Semifinals ~7:00 pm ~7:00 am ~1:00 pm
Wed, July 30 200 IM Prelims ~10:00 am ~10:00 pm (July 29) ~4:00 am

Sun, August 3 400 IM Finals ~7:00 pm ~7:00 am ~1:00 pm
Sun, August 3 4×100 Medley Relay Finals ~7:00 pm ~7:00 am ~1:00 pm

While Marchand alone is a must-see attraction, his doubles on July 30th and 31st will be ones to keep a keen eye on.

The 200 fly and 200 IM will be back to back on the 30th. Meaning if Marchand makes the championships final in the 200 IM, it will set up yet another back-to-back for the following day.

Swimming the 200 breast semifinal directly before the potential 200 IM final will be arguably the biggest test of his meet if he is to succeed in this brutal turnaround.

In a span of 48 hours, Marchand will likely be swimming six 200-meter races at these World Championships.

Marchand is one of the biggest names in the sport, but with his schedule of grueling finals, this will not only be a test of skill but also a showcase of his recovery and grit.

Imagine if France were serious contenders in the 4×200 and 4×100 free relays, and Marchand felt obligated to swim legs on both. And imagine if the same went for the 4×100 mixed medley relay. What a crazy schedule that would be.

If he fails to win four titles, he will become a clown 🤡. After all, he once again used his privilege to change the schedule, which is not fair to other athletes at all.

Ridiculous take.

What?

Even two individual titles after a inconstant post olympic year would be great to him (like Phelps in 2005 and 2009).

A clown not winning four titles, ah ah ah !

Wish we could see him tapered in 2fr, 4fr and 2bk 👀

Phelps had tapered 400 free and it bombed.

in freestyle, even tapered he needs to progress much and is not competitive yet.

In 2bk, I think he has a great potential maybe even more than in 2 and 4fr.

If I were him, I’d skip either one of the 2 breast or 2 fly – not sure which though

From a schedule perspective it would prob be best to drop the 200 breast since its semi is right before the 200 IM final as opposed to a semi for the 200 IM being after the 200 fly final and also Qin Haiyang is prob a more formidable opponent than Kharun/Urlando. But seems like he’s swam a lot more breast than fly this year so maybe that’s where his focus is at

I think Marchand would like to dispose of Qin Haiyang
