NC State Hires Josh Stanfield as New Assistant Coach

The NC State Wolfpack announced today that Josh Stanfield has been hired as an assistant coach. 

Braden Holloway, the Head Coach, said “we’re proud to welcome Josh Stanfield– a coach who brings vision, passion, and a relentless drive to help us rise to the next level.”

Stanfield has been coaching since 2012, when he started as a volunteer assistant with his alma mater, Southwestern University, where he competed as a member of the swim team. While coaching there, he also coached for Nitro Swimming, a club team in Texas.

In September of 2012, Stanfield joined the Gardner-Webb coaching staff as an assistant coach, and he was ultimately promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2017. From there, he joined the coaching staff at Duke, as an assistant, where he spent four seasons as an assistant coach.

In his final season at Duke, the women matched their best ACC Championships performance (5th) and finished 24th at NCAAs. 

In the summer of 2022, he began coaching at Notre Dame as an assistant,  where he spent three seasons, helping guide the Notre Dame men’s team to their 2nd place finish at the 2024 ACC Championships, which was their highest finish in program history. 

Stanfield said about his new position, “I’m truly thankful to Braden for this incredible opportunity and for the warm welcome my family and I have received from the Wolfpack Nation. NC State stands among the elite programs in the country, consistently competing at the highest levels both nationally and internationally. I’m eager to begin this journey with the student-athletes and coaches alike to help take the program toe even greater heights, and to bring unwavering passion and energy to everything we do. Go Pack!”

Stanfield will join the Wolfpack coaching staff of Holloway, Dave McKown (Head Diving Coach), Dan Kesler (Associate Head Coach), Dan Kalupski (Associate Head Coach), Kevin Happ (Assistant Coach), Stefani Wendelschaefer (Assistant Coach), and Michael Baric (Assistant Coach).

Former Associate Head Coach Mark Bernardino announced his retirement in May.
