2025 European Junior Championships

While day one of the European Junior Championships saw Italy lead the overall medal table, tonight the nation of Great Britain surged ahead to sit with a total of 6 pieces of hardware halfway through the competition.

Tonight’s British medalists included Filip Nowacki who snagged 50m breast silver (27.61) behind winner Nusrat Allahverdi of Turkey (27.24) while Amelie Blocksidge topped the girls’ 1500m free in 16:10.23, exactly the time she put up for gold last year.

Italy still looks strong, however, holding fast as the 2nd-ranked nation. Tonight Bianca Nannucci kicked things off for the nation with gold in the 200m free (1:58.41) followed by Daniele del Signore earning runner-up status in the boys’ 50m back (25.25)

Emma Vittoria Giannelli wrangled up silver in the 1500m free (16:13.11) behind Blocksidge and the mixed free reaped bronze as well.

Making moves in a big way was Spain.

Following up on its upset from night one in the girls’ 4x100m free relay, tonight the nation’s mixed free relay got it done for gold, powered by 16-year-old Luca Hoek le Guenedal‘s monster 48.14 lead-off.

Maria Daza Garcia was another member of that relay, doubling up on the 200m free silver (1:58.97) captured earlier on in the session. Add in the girls’ 50m breast bronze from Nayara Pineda Lopez and Spain finds itself ranked 3rd in the medal table with 2 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze thus far.
