New York University junior Kaley McIntyre had a phenomenal start to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday morning, firing off a new D3 record in the women’s 50 freestyle.
McIntyre, 20, put up a time of 22.30 in the heats to lower the Division III record of 22.46, which she set en route to winning the national title at last year’s championships.
Prior to McIntyre breaking the record last year, the D3 mark stood at 22.48, set by Emory’s Fiona Muir in 2018.
McIntyre qualified 1st out of this morning’s prelims by nearly half a second, with Emory senior Ava Kennedy advancing 2nd overall in 22.79 while four other swimmers broke 23 seconds.

McIntyre is the two-time defending NCAA champion in the women’s 50 and 200 free, and is also the defending champ in the 100 free, having swept all three events at the 2024 championships after winning the 50 and 200 as a freshman in 2023.
In her first season, she swam the 200 back instead of the 100 free as her third event, placing 9th.

**New D2 Record
In 2024, McIntyre earned CSCAA Swimmer of the Year honors in Division III after a standout NCAA performance that included new DIII records in the 50 and 100 free to go along with additional wins in the 200 free and on NYU’s 800 free relay.
Last month, McIntyre reset her own D3 record in the 100 free, clocking 48.58 at the University Athletic Association Championships while also winning the 50 free (22.62) and 200 free (1:46.15).
Those performances have made her the top seed in the 100 free by nearly a full second and the top seed in the 200 free by two seconds later in the meet.
Would be interested to hear an episode from her on the swim swam pod!
she looked very easy this morning! wonder if she was holding back at all
Curious to see how low she can take this record and maybe get close to Bryn greenwaldt’s D2 record from last week.
